Title: RNS510 Voice guidance volume?
Post by: p3eps on 23 April 2010, 19:14
Can anyone tell me where I can adjust the volume of the lady who tells me where to go?!

I could barely hear her before, and now for some reason she doesn't speak at all

I've been into the Setup -> Nav menu... and voice guidance is ON.

Anyone?!  Its probably really simple, but having an eBay unit - I have no manual to check

When she talks adjust the volume to what you want it to be.

When she talks adjust the volume to what you want it to be.

So I just wait until I think she should be speaking, and twist the volume up?!
Its a bit tricky since I can't hear her - but I guess I could press the button that makes her repeat the last instruction and turn it up then?

Basically yes that's it.
Set some directions and then turn the volume up when you ask her to repeat herself.

p3eps, I came across an actual PDF rather than a scanned copy of the manual here
http://ws.skoda-auto.com/download/4all/Documentation/en/Olders/Octavia/navigation/A5_Octavia_Columbus_NavigationSystem.pdf (http://ws.skoda-auto.com/download/4all/Documentation/en/Olders/Octavia/navigation/A5_Octavia_Columbus_NavigationSystem.pdf)
Its for the Skoda version but they are exactly the same.

Thanks for that... although I still can't get her to speak!  I can catch the 'Navigation Volume' if I turn it up when she should be speaking - and its set to full.  I also have the 'Voice Guidance' set to on in the Setup -> Navigation menu.

It worked for a couple of days... but its maybe since I upgraded the firmware to 2720 that my lady had gone away

In the tone setup, in Volume, there is a section on navigation and the amount of attenuation you want to set when the nav voice speaks up.

Right...that is the correct answer..

I had the same problem yesterday and searched quite a bit...this solved it...a bit user-unfriendly here since you are tempted to think it is for your audiosystem...

It is the "first volume line"......mind you I still do not know what the implication of the "second volume line" is....a kind of minimum attenuation... :undecided:

Once again - thanks for the suggestions - but it didn't fix it!
I set both volumes up pretty high... but no success.

I'm thinking I should maybe try changing the firmware version.
Its not a huge problem, as I'm not going anywhere that needs Nav for a while... its just a little bit annoying when something doesn't work right

That volume I'm sure is only to set the volume for what you want it to be when you first switch on because it certainly affects my music volume rather than my navigation one.
Not sure what the second one is for.

Did you look in the manual?

I have the top volume line quite a few notches higher than the bottom volume line....did you try such a setting....instead of both high...

Today I checked again for you and this time pushing both levels higher.....beside that the radio picked up at a higher level (just a few seconds) the lady on the Navigation raised her voice permenantly ....

If you experience different there must be something wrong.... :sad:f

The odd thing is today when driving home I tried the Nav.  I had the stereo up pretty loud, and it went quiet when it should have had instructions!  Its like the voice file is missing!
