Title: Back To Black...
Post by: shaolindan on 23 April 2010, 09:31
I got my baby back yesterday, so when I got home last night I had a play.
I replaced the lock pins, put my new VW tax disc holder (got rid of the manky dealer one), put the OEM golf ball gear knob on (replacing the after market alloy gti one). I then took out the dash speakers and replaced the old blaupunkt speakers with a new set of alpine 3.5"s. The difference in sound quality is incredible.
After that I, it was a wash and shine, did the windows in and out and then AC/DCed the trim, wheels, spoiler, window trim and wing mirrors.

Stood back and had that great VDub smile on my face...

One small point, on the inside of the front passengers door a small piece of trim has come off. If you look on the grid it is on the edge of Q4. It is basically the triangular piece of plastic that sits on the door where the wing mirror sits. It appears to pop into two grommets mounted in the door, only I can only see half of the blue of one grommet and no grommet in the other hole.
Am I right in thinking this is what I need, and of so anyone know the part number?

VW in Battersea have them in stock. He wouldn't give me the part number on the phone, said he would remember me when I pop in.

44p each. I will hopefully get the number when we pick them up today, I will post it when I do and put it in the relevant sticky.

The mounting pegs on this part of trim busts off over time...

Both trim parts are NLA from the dealers & the drivers side fetch's stupid money on ebay...

I have used good quality Trim/ Number plate tape to fix mine back on.... Get it off ebay 10 meters for a couple of quid..

As I said VW in Battersea South London have them in stock. Would it be worth me buying twenty of them and keeping them?

I have the blue things.

Have a look on the classifieds for someone breaking a mk2 I would think you could find one quite easily.

Your on about the grommit that fixes into the hole and then the peg pushes into that... I am saying that the peg breaks off then use Trim tape...

Nope and don't use that to put em on...

You have to take the trim off every time you remove the inner door trim.....
