Can anyone tell me what type of bulbs are in the wing mirrors to save me dismantling them?
When I use the coming / leaving home lights, my wing mirrors have little lights on them that light up the ground. The trouble is they look really poop as they are a very yellowey light, and I'd like to swap them for something a bit brighter and clearer.... especially against my white DRL's and xenons.
I'd also like to change all the interior lights for LED's - although that may be going a bit too far!
Has anyone got a list of bulbs that the MK6 uses?

The interior is straight forward. w5w LED's you are looking for.

As for the puddle lights, I'm sure you need to remove the mirror glass to get to the lights. Frog tried but I don't know if he managed it in the end.

Thanks for the link. I guess I'll order up some bulbs!!
If I knew the puddle bulb size I would order them too, and have a go at it. I wonder how much new glass costs if I broke it... apart from 7 years bad luck :laugh:

I've done my interior light and they look real classy, not done the puddle lights as I'm a little scared of breaking the glass, let me know how you get on..

I also couldn't get my footwell light boxes to come apart to change the lights in there.
I got frustrated after a while and just gave up.

Indeed. I gave up when my technician mate at the VW dealer told me that dismantling the mirror to access the bulbs invariably resulted in the glass breaking. He said they alwyas ordered a new glass ready to put back in when they needed to work on the mirrors.
I would prefer bright LED-type bulbs, but TBH, I've got used to the stock bulbs now and don't give them a second thought.

Have you all gone for the quad ones, or has anyone tried the SMD ones which are smaller?
I see autobulbsdirect do 'canbus' compatible ones... will they work on the numberplate surround without throwing up warning lights?!

Quads, do you have alink for the other 1's. Also anyone seen the replacement glass anywhere ? needs to be heated?

I'm sure there are cheaper ones out there...
Those bulbs are the same style as the guy in the link above fitted to his puddle lights.

Quad bulbs for me also.
The bulbs you linked to would be throwing most of its light out sideways. Although this shouldn't matter as it should bounce most of the light off the mirrored housing. I just preferred all the LED's aiming into the cabin.

There is the difference, during the winter you get a real cool glow not hedious yellow light.

I'm getting a few bulbs dropped off by my fiancee's uncle today for me to test.
He's been fitting them into Saabs withouth any problems. He has a couple of the Canbus compatible ones, so I can try them in the number plate.
I'll let you know how they go over over the weekend. POURING rain just now, so won't be doing to exterior ones tonight!

60 euros!!
I tested the 4 I got today - 2 Canbus ones, and 2 '6' LED ones (not SMD though).
I tried them in the glove box, overhead lights, and sun visor bit. All good.
I tried them in the numberplate - and I got an error. I then tried the Canbus ones, and they work fine.
Now I'll get a heap of them ordered up. The take minutes to change, and make such a difference.
