just disconnect the ISV in the engine and see will it idle of the idle screw.
only thing i can think of is that with the heater matrix exploding it may have somehow sprayed water onto the ISV controller behind the centre console causing it to short circuit
@veedubgti16v - cheers ;)

I have changed the isv and the cdi unit and the isv, when u start the car,it fires up fine then after about 2 seconds it revs round to 3500 rpm, i then fitted a mastic nozzel down the pipe from the air box to isv and it ticks over fine all though it does seem down on power slightly, mind u i have been drivingh me misses 328 for a month.
Please Help
|\thanks

to see if the control unit is knackered - find it and unplug it.
see if the car behaves any differently. if its the same - then its knackered.
you dont really need to even spend 20 quid on it to be honest. just find someone who has wrecked their 16v and offer them a fiver for it. the are not exactly a sexy part so they rarely if ever get sold.
the unit from VAG i thought was about ?120. which is what mine cost :( 380 sounds more like the price for the ECU.
-
i have just bought a ecu and isv from a user on here for ?70, got them to day but there is no diiferance, Is there a part of the isv which goes in the console some where? If so could this be knackered due to the heater matrix exploding?
-
Yes mate that's the one that went on mine! It's behind the center console
scroll down this thread, there's a pic of it - http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=14310.0
Good luck

thats the one we've been telling you to change. the actual ISV under the bonnet very rarely fails!
-
These things are like buses :) no one get one going wrong for ages, then all of a sudden they all go at once :)
-
Is this part actualy in the centre console, or up in dash, is it easy to do?
I guess i will need to feed wires through the bulk head to engine bay if i need a new one?
Thanks
