Title: Exhaust Manifolds
Post by: Volkswagavin on 26 November 2004, 12:48
Is there much benefit in fitting a stainless steel exhaust manifold to my Mk2?  Some people say they become brittle with the heat and crack from the movement of the engine, but I'm curious about the potential power gains.

Can anyone recommend a good manifold to go for?

not to sure but i bet someone will point it out if im wrong but the reg manifold is fine and standard is more than enough, as for the stainless steal not too sure on that one.

s/s 4-2-1 manifold will give about a 10-15% increase in bhp

the only reason the crack is due to knackered engine mounts. they are a bit more brittle than cast iron. so if you get one look at, at least, re-newing all mounts or go for uprated items

also, make sure your exhaust rubbers are in good condition also, as flex in these can translate along the exhaust and cause the manifold to crack

one thing though, they do sound very 'tinny' when driving
