Title: CCGTI MK3 now with pictures
Post by: CCGTI on 20 April 2010, 08:50
Right i sold my Octavia VRs and wanted something cheap to play with, but also wanted the best car for my money as i didnt want a total shed as its my daily car and the wife would leave me if i put another shell on the drive like when i bought a MK1 cabrio shell for 99p off ebay (her face was a picture)

I bought my self a Colour concept in jazz blue, it had been in 1 family and bought from new

it has a small rust scab on the passenger side rear quarter and its standing like a scared cat, also one of the fog lights was damaged

Right so my plan is to keep the car cheap so i started searching ebay for parts

The car cost me £850, a lad down the road from me was selling some Gmax shocks and Koni springs he was breaking off a vr6 so i managed to win the bid for £63, I also managed to get my self some A3 Pepperpots from a women in Nottingham who had never used her them for £75 and i didnt want to pay silly money for tyres so i managed to win some Nankang 195/50/15R for £67 from a bloke in skipton

Me and mymate steve went to are local tyre garage to get the tyres swaped over and went home and decided to spend a day in the rain dropping the car

As you can see from the pics we tried to prevent some rust with hammermite, next on the list is some fresh paint, and a momo team steering wheel

Spot on mate will do, have i spoke to u on here befor, i have the sandwich shop next to the butchers, I like the original wheels but for £75 these are a bargain, plus i think they clean up the car. i might have a bash at doing my head lining myself in blue alicantra and send a few plastic bits off for flocking, i want to keep the car looking totally standard with a few minor upgrades which just make it stand out abit plus i might try my hands with a carbon mods kit to see if i can make some interior parts

Post by: CCGTI on 28 April 2010, 19:11
Got the plates off a bloke at elsecar mega meet will look up his address for you, same with the surrounds, plates cost me £30 and the surrounds where £15 for the pair, I preffered doing with this chap as he takes your V5 details and your driving licence number there and then, i dont like sending my V5 off on these online sites, I did the badges my self, front and back i will try dig the pics up, gave they where shot so i gave them 2 coats of primer and 3 coats of black paint and the laquered them twice so the dont flake, also got the sticker from the bloke at elsecar, got some more to add, just waiting for my polo estate to sell to fund the golf, i buy and sell cars from home to feed my habit haha

Actually calling them a blank would be more accurate. They're not Grommets. Grommets are a ring of metal/rubber.

wow that looks super clean... nice find....is it as mint as it looks in the picture?....  only thing it needs desperately is a drop, and if i was being picky, maybe sell the wheels and with the money buy something that suits it better.

As SoundillusioN said, looks very clean! The wheels aren't my cup of tea and it's screaming to be lowered, also is that a crack in the windscreen?

Looks like a very tidy car never the less, and in the best colour too

oh yeah, didn't spot that, something going on in the top left corner... ah well.. i'm sure its the first thing that will get sorted... with 12 months MOT on it then it must have only just happened if it is cracked!

Already 10 steps ahead of u guys, wheels been up for sale since saturday, audi pepperpots in my garage been sanded down ready for some black paint

lowering after xmas just in case we have bad weather again, no crack in window its a sticker to say its been sold (bought it at auction, impulse buy plus my little bro egging me on to get it)

its hard to get in first gear, engine is solid plus it all just been serviced, my plans over next week/2 weeks are get the gear box/clutch checked out and upgrade it if needed

The wheels really arent my cup of tea, I think the people in the Know call it oem+ I want it looking standard with only quality upgrades

Hope you like it and hopefully it will look as clean as my CC was

Right where to start, had a day off work and as usual the first thing i did was log onto ebay see what gems i could find, decided to look at the newly listed item had been put on and I came across this beauty, advertised as spares or repairs because of a slipping clutch it has a MOT till middle of march and tax runs out on monday, It has 86000 miles with full history the interior is like new

So i text the bloke and asked what was the lowest he would take for it and he said make me an offer as it had been sat in his garage for 5 months doing nothing

So i did and picked it up for such a low price I think I should have had a stocking over my face and a gun to his face, it was either this or a PS3 lol

So plans

Coilovers (currently sat in my garage)
tidy up some rust patches
Wheels, not sure what yet but i want it to look almost standard with a few tweeks
SS exhaust
New clutch(thinking of a upgraded 1 for future plans)

and so on and so on lol

engine wise as its only done 86000 really fancy doing a eaton charger, you can more or less get a full set up for £200

first cheap mod i have done lol(http://i773.photobucket.com/albums/yy19/ccgti/ebaygolf008.jpg)

Probably, but not much more than £300 if you do it yourself I expect. Far cheeper than doing a conversion I reckon as well

Lot more than just bolting the charger on, you need to drop the compression plus the standard mangement will only be so good before you need standalone, by the time you have made all the brackets etc.

Also the M45 off a Mini is not really up to the job, it is designed for up to a 1.6. M62 needed for a 2.0

There are a couple on ebay in the US for around the same price for an M62. Not sure if I would risk it but they are very rare in the UK and easily twice as expensive!

I will not lose sleep over it  with the greatest of respects I don't think you really know what is involved in supercharging an engine.

your gonna need extra or different injectors if you wanna run over 7psi, possible new management too, otherwise Bang goes your engine.. more thought needed on this one pal but would be great project

Wayne pritty shore i have seen u b!tching about peoples build threads befor if im not in correct, you would be really suprised what i know and i dont know, most of my family and friends work with cars in some form or another, plenty of free advice to be passed on and you would be be suprised if you have respect for somebody and are willing to learn you can do a hell of alot

for a start old school mates who are mechanics
my cousen is a porsche tuning specilist
alot of mates who are engineers and 1 hand makes car parts for high performance cars and is a walking haynes manual, so always handy for knocking something up
1 mate runs a scrappers which always has minis and loads of german cars coming in

So i think with all the knowledge i have at hand will keep the cost down

SLEEP TIGHT

Well wayne dont lose sleep mate, and allow people to have some fun

He is letting people have fun, but for £200 you won't get very far.

As Wayne mentioned you will need the M62 as the M45 is designed for a smaller engine. You will also need to fabricate brackets and piping as well as buy couplers and have a remap done (that's £150 alone for this engine).

As Kells said, you will need new management if you want decent output. I think the standard ECU can be made to work with boost, but only on very low pressure as it's not designed to run boost.

Then you've got gearbox and engine, they're not designed to take boost. The 020 gearbox will implode if you chuck a supercharger at it, so you're better off using an 02A or 02J. The engine is also not up for boost. You can run low pressure boost without building a forged engine but if you've got a supercharger, and you're spending money you might as well run a decent amount of boost otherwise it's money wasted.

You're looking at around £800 minimum to run a low pressure system.

Post by: F17BAD on 23 February 2011, 21:51
plus at least £500/£600 for standalone management if you go this route

as said, would be a great project if you carried it through

must say. agree with Khare

+1 would be good to see it happen, but as Kells, Khare and Wayne have all said it will take a fair amount of work and money, not just a simple case of buying a charger and slapping it on.

M62s from the US for 150 quid, brackets fabricated locally wont cost too much, I forgot about management tbh but thats probs 200. Stacked gaskets to lower CR, gearbox should be fine, and pipework wont cost the earth the same as injectors off a VR. Dont get me wrong I'm no expert, and you all probably know more than me, but reading the stickie on it and it doesnt seem to add up to £800. A fair few people have done it and I dont think any of them changed their gearbox. I'm sure you could get it all done for less than £500 which wont break the bank. I'm not trying to create an arguement guys and maybe I'm being a bit naive but I think I may go for this in the summer so I will keep all updated if CCGTI has not done it by then

The 020 gearbox is pants. Combined with the ABF it's already a recipe for disaster, let alone with a supercharged 8v.

Post by: benvictors on 24 February 2011, 22:00
The 020 will be good enough for up to about 170bhp but wouldn't like to push it much further than that. Could do a full re-build on the 020 before hand for about £120, be like a brand new box after and could probably push to about 190bhp...................

Well it depends how you drive it, I confess I like the look of stretch, mine had a a very slight stretch on it with the wheels that were on the car when I bought it, top quality tyres though, bridgestone potenza p zero.

If you intend to ponce around and look good, then stretch all the way.  decent driving, I wouldn't want it.

nice smooth rear quaters

The bonnet, washers are been relocated, i have some mk4 washers to fit, little jobs for this week

Had the wheels done over the weekend and collected today as well, it was like my birthday and xmas rolled into one

If you're gonna add stretch, make sure you get some decent rubber at least. Nankangs are bad at the bad of times.
