I'm looking to lower my new motor and not sure what option to go for. I also plan to replace the stock wheels with 17/18s.
My previous cars have had PI springs and I found the ride too hard and my teeth started to hurt.
I want to lower the car but want to avoid these issues.
Any ideas on which make of springs are more forgiving? Or should I look for a different way of lowering? How about anni/R32 setup? They look lower.
Any advice is appreciated.

Im with rich on this, eibach and bilstein shocks are a great all round setup and they have that oem feel to em
from what i have been told they are progressive too so the harder you drive and the more the spring compresses the better the handling becomes. Also forget cheap coilovers unless you want your eyeballs to fall out.

don't get an r32 suspension kit as it won't fit the rear shocks and springs are different

As voodoo says - Eibach pro feel very OEM and not too hard.
IIRC Eibach make the Anni springs. :smiley:

I've got 17's and now Jamex coilovers on my 2.0. I heard the "buy cheap buy twice", but I wanted a way of levelling out the (uneven) front and back on a very tight budget. Got the coilovers for £190 incl. postage on eBay, ride is considerably firmer but not at all harsh. Obviously I can't say what they will be like over time, but so far I'm impressed and feel more comfortable in them having a 2yr warranty. Pic with them fitted:

are they likely to fail or is it just the harsh ride?
got about £200 and wanting to lower my mk4 and coilovers appeal due to being able to adjust!

Very harsh ride also some quality issues.

so with the 'quality issues'
is that just crappy materials being used?
in other words more likely to buckle or whatever its called if hitting pot holes etc.

I respect that but with some cheap coilovers failing in less than 2 years are you saving anything.

Thanks for the replies, Eibachs may be the way forward. There's a very good garage near me who will suplpy them along with the new rims.
I think they may have been what I had fitted to my Puma which was so stiff it was horrible. Maybe I'm after something taht doesn't exist.

Yeah I do agree with that - In my case, I couldn't justify spending £500+ as the car only cost me £1800 and I'll probably upgrade in the next 2-3yrs anyway. Went for Jamex over JOM as they came with a 2yr warranty rather than just 1 :)

Hmmmm if you can hold off a few weeks i should be able to get my hands on some cheaper than RRP Koni suspension, should really be able to get any make/model because i am getting it distributed :wink:
I'm on Weitec springs myself but will be changing to Koni as soon as i can speak to my friend in the know :smiley:
