Hi I am new to the forum, I have just bought a 2008 GTI with a normal radio and would like a SAT Nav built in. Does anyone have anyone have any opinions on this model

I like the RNS10 but has anyone else had any replica ones and are they any good?
Thanks

I wouldn't mind finding out about these also.
Anyone got a clue if this unit will cause the battery drain issues you get on the older MK5's if you fit the RCD or RNS 510?

Sorry I don't have one of those. If I was you I would check out the RNS510 group buy thread below instead. At least you know everything will work as intended..
Just my point of view...

They're almost the same price. Why bother.

How does that work out when a 2008 one cost £550 and 2009 is £650 both second hand. These are the cheapest I can find. If you know where they are around the same price as the replica please let me know.

freeview tv, now thats good for when im miss'n my progs wait'n for her to do the shop'n...lol.. but do not like the antenna tho..+ i have my ipod in the glove box, not sure you can do that with this.

Well, the RNS510 doesn't accept full postcodes still and you can't hack them to display speed cameras, there's no bluetooth support either and you need an MDI interface to get ipod/mp3 track names.
I agree the chinese version should be cheaper (I've seen them for less than this), but the 510 still isn't *that* good IMHO.

IMO aftermarket setups always win for a good sound setup, all day long.

you can't hack them to display speed cameras
My rns510 shows speed camera's, moblie speed camera locations and traffic light camera's

Looks good.

Does it make a noise to warn you that they're there though??
-
no

I think it's possible to get the speed camera warning noise on on BMW oem sat navs - why we can't get it on VAG ones, I have no idea!
-
Ed I don't think BMW do do the speed warning, basically due to the speed cams been a POI there is nothing in the coding to make any kind warning??
The RNS510 is upgradeable with all sorts of add ons
Media In, TV, Bluetooth, Rear Seat Entertainment, Rear View Camera, On screen Parking Sensors front and back, plus the standard stuff already on the unit.
The quality of the chinese units is nothing compared to the RNS510

I have bought one of these off mortygt140 as i'm a member on the other forum and they are a great piece of kit. I used to have the MFD2 sat nav unit and the RNS 510 a vast improvement upon that. Plus with the RNS you can store your music on the 30gb harddisk and the copy doesn't mention a harddisk.
From looking at the chinese copy the sat nav works off a sd card so how much information can it hold? and the ipod cable fits in the front next to the sd cards so wires hanging off the front of the unit if you connect an ipod not a very good look at all.
I think it's a case of you get what you pay for, at least with the geniune unit there are no surprises
