Got the R LED's installed today, was a fairly painless process apart from the wing screws being tighter than a nun's chuff. Still got the pain in my thumbs as I type.
Anyway, I've got some pics here, sorry they are rubbish but they were taken with my iPhone.
Just one thing, did anyone notice when they installed theirs that the reverse light flashes about 4/5 times really fast just as the car starts ? I assume thats just because the MFD is giving the warnings ?

-
Welldone kev looks blinding as they say!! Any chance you can do a night shot? I might get some of them when I get back from Thailand? Bit skint now , enjoy Steve

Yeah will need VCDS to tell the computer that all is fine basically, as right now it thinks there is a problem with all the lights. It gives you a reminder when you start up the car then you dont get it again till next time so its not so annoying. It took about 30 mins but could have done it sooner had I not had the wing nuts from hell. Oh yeah, it was easy to install, If I can do it anyone can.

Yep mate, will get some shots tonight and post them up.

Very nice Kev.. even if i do say so myself
just a quick question... did u notice a larger gap at the bottom of the lights? Mine seem to sit flush at the top but there is a much larger gap at the bottom :undecided:

Yeah they are about 1-2mm from being perfect.
What I did was position them as best I could with the long black side clip taken off, and as there is a little play at the screws before tightening them up I positioned them to a point I was happy with then tightened. Then at the end I clipped the long black side protector thingy back on. I was happy with the end result. When I did put the first one in, I thought...thats not right, then put my normal light back in and it was perfect, but as you say there not 100% spot on, about 98%. I guess there must be a tiny bit of difference between the R and GTI. But if you do what I said and remove the black side thingy, you can get it looking almost exact.
-
Off out to take some shots as its getting dark now.
-
Very nice, I bet you're well chuffed. Good to see a decent car again - we hired a Nissan Micra today to keep our minds off a certain cloud of ash that is preventing us from flying home from Tenerife. Shame
I have the same 2mm gap at the bottom, though it's probably less noticeable on carbon grey.
-
Again, sorry the pics are sh!t, they are even worse in the dark
I can safely say though, that they look the dogs proverbials in 'real life'

I do like these - quite an improvement [IMO] than the default lights.

They look sh!t hot! I'm seriously considering getting the R LEDs, but got a 'dummy' question to ask?
Where do I get the VCDS to tell the computer the LEDs are fine? I presume you take the car to a VW garage to sort it out? If so, does that mean the LEDs will work straightaway after installation but the user will continuously get the MFD warnings.

Yeah you could take it to a dealer (thats sort of my plan) or you can buy from Ross Tech. Yeah they will work fine and every time you start the car you will get a warning for each light it looks like is not working to the MFD (x4). They eventually dissapear though after about 10 seconds.

Its a pity you can't see them while your driving

Neil, the gap at the bottom of the lights, is it just the outers, ie the ones above the bumper? i'm considering getting in on the gb but it's just the talk of the gaps thats putting me off! :undecided:

Its only on the outers, you have to look for it to see it, can't even tell really its only 2-3mm gap underneath the outer lights, if you look at the top pic you can just see it
-
Neil: Very clear 1st picture.
Love the look, but the outer and inners don't quite line up do they?
And why is there that gap at the bottom?
I wonder if Eriks GTi rear LEDs are gap-free and therefore line up?
ERIK WAKE UP AND ANSWER!

They just need a little adjustment doing it tomorrow, 2 min job
Don't know why there is a little gap but as i said you can't see it unless you look for it,
Maybe the R bumper is slightly different
Looking at the pic if i tilt the outer light to line up with inner it should close the gap, have a play in morn and let you know

Same with mine. We were driving up to Dundee this morning and I'd changed the RCD510 for an RNS510 (Thanks to Darren) and she commented on me changing the colour of the screen!!!
10 minutes later the SatNav kicked in and she never said a word. Another 10 minutes and she finally said, "Has that always had that"!!
I've only had the car 6 months!!!!! A couple of minutes later I fired up the DVD player and eventually she twigged it must be new  She's bloody clever but not the brightest when it comes to gadgets and stuff, which has its advantages
My usual reply if she asks about costs is "A couple of pounds"

Not all women. Gizzy is buying LEDs. She is fab.
Anyway, you are mostly right and neither can most males.
Us real guys need our man jewellery in the form of Xenons, LEDs, 18", 19" (or 20" if they fit!), etc. etc.
Cheaper than diamonds (but these last forever and stay on her finger etc).
Maybe I can go out now and score in Mayfair with my GTi!

There are some very rich widows knocking around in that area. Mind you they are all tucked up by now.
Only Arabs and Taxi drivers are trolling those streets now, I presume!
I certainly don't want to be treated like a camel or ridden like one!

A 2mm shortfall is no great loss but if you go Imperial and it becomes 2 inches, then the seriousness of the 'pain versus pleasure sydrome'  is very much an issue!
Too wet last night to tramp round Mayfair to pay for my rear illumination. Will manage somehow to raise the required issue of money by using my bank account!
I think your already beautiful rear will be even more kisssable when it is properly lit in the dark!

A few more pics now the Leds are lined up
the reason there was a gap underneath is because there is a slide clip on the light that fits into the body and it was sat on top and not slid in
(http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt94/NeilGti/067.jpg)
All nice and straight now with no gaps
(http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt94/NeilGti/076.jpg)
The result only took 10 mins, a few turns of the thumbscrew and the light pops out slide into bottom slide clip and tighten thumbscrew

So what your saying is theres a lip on the light that has to be tucked in behind the edge of the wing? yes?
This then gets rid of the 2mm gap (one of the reasons i was thinking against the R lights.)

Too right mate, Im just waiting for mine to arrive, got a carbon grey with 18" shadows xenons lux pack etc hopefully here in next week... And I really think the LEDs will finish it off nicely. Did you have to fit any special connectors or do any re programming yourself as I am a complete with that sort of thing!?!
