Title: Diesel Power
Post by: mankymic on 24 November 2004, 15:41
been looking at returning to volkswagen but thinking about a diesel this time
saw on a few websites that the 150bhp can be chipped to 200bhp. is there any ways to get this more like a new turbo, intercooler etc, and does amyone know where this can br done, how much etc

and can you get a loud dump valve for the diesel
cheers

AmD would be the people to talk to, they had a play around with different turbos on one of their guys fabia vrs (130pd). That gave a little over 200bhp. Remapping alone will see about 185-190bhp from a 150PD golf.
Can't get dump valves for diesel engines, since they dont have a throttle like petrol engines do. Only thing you could do is stick one of those fake "wooosh" thingies on, but then you might aswell wear a burberry cap and have a 12 year old girlfriend called Mercedes-Chardonnay. ;)

Allard do a conversion that takes the PD150 up to 245bhp. Costs a whopping 5 grand and you get:- New Turbo, Intercooler, Exhaust, Savage re-map plus some other things. Turned off the attention span after I heard the price................ Derv Doctor does do a dump valve conversion but to be honest, Don't see the point in it as it has no benefits whatsoever apart from the "Whoosh" which is pure boy racer.

Have any of you had clutch problems after your upgrades? Assumning you haven't had that upgraded, I would have thought that for those of you above the 200bhp mark, if the torque increased by a similar proportion, it would destroy that poor little clutch after a while.  I imagine the torque-steer is mental as well!

Nimrod you are quie right my Revo chipped Tdi (223bh 325lbstorque) has after 20,000 miles of hard driving has started to suffer slight clutch slip  , only when on a charge between 2500rpm and 3000rpm in third & forth gear nothing that a replcement presure plate did not cure

forgot to add torque steer no problem as esp takes care of that, but can understeer badly in the wet, untill esp intervens and cuts power.
