Title: vagcom coding for audio / telephone... help please!
Post by: p3eps on 17 April 2010, 12:28
I've spent the morning hacking my car apart when I should be out driving it!!

I have an RCD510 with Dynaudio and reverse cam in the car as standard.
I'm trying to put in an RNS510 and Fiscon bluetooth kit.

I spent ages routing the Mic, then took out the RCD plugged in the Fiscon, then plugged in the RNS.  I thought I'd test it all before putting it back together, so its still sitting in pieces just now!
I get some odd codes from the vagcom - probably because my ECU isn't in their database yet?

Anyway - I followed the setup on My-GTI for the Dynaudio, so I think thats working... although I don't get a Dynaudio logo on startup anymore.  I've managed to get the reverse cam working too, but unlike my RCD, I can only have Cam OR Sensors.  The RCD lets me have a split screen with both.  I guess thats the RNS firmware though?

The thing thats puzzling me most in the Fiscon.  My autoscan from the vagcom says '77-Telephone -- Status: Not Registered 0001' - but when I try and enter 77 to enable it, it times out.  Maybe I'm doing something stupid?  If I press the Phone button on the RNS, it says no phone connected or not set up.  How do I get this working?

My other question is how do I get street names / Nav Info on the MFD?  I've managed to get the multifulction steering wheel controls working - just not the MFD.

Is it normal for the RNS to have a fan on when I switch the car off?  I guess it just goes off after a few minutes?

Oh... and another thing.

I went out just now (about 5 mins since last time!) adn the fan had stopped... but when I listened to it carefully it was still buzzing.
When I start the car, I don't get any startup screen.  It seems like its been on the whole time.

Any ideas?

Hmmm... went out after about 45 mins, and the RNS is still making a buzzing sound (not in a bad way - just like its on) - so I've taken it out and put the RCD back in for the time being.  The last thing I want is my battery going flat after 1 day!!

I think I may have the answer to the Fiscon query - by reading the manual!!!
Away out with my laptop to have another go

I installed the RNS510 the other day and I have the Fiscon installed. At first they didn't appear to work with each other but a simple switch off and back on got them working together.

As for the RNS510 on while you aren't in the car, I think it is somehow linked to the doors / interior lights etc. What I mean is, when I unlock my car its as if the RNS510 bursts in to life knowing full well its about to get switched on so gets ready for it.

I could be talking bull but its definitely off when I lock the doors  :undecided:

Oh and I hope you are keeping note of what you are doing with the VAG COM as I still need to get
RVC up and working
have the MFSW buttons working
Song titles in the MFD
Directions in the MFD.

Its not like its on... its just if you listen very carefully it makes a dull humming noise.
When it switches on, its STRAIGHT on with a full Sat signal and playing the iPod.  No start up screen or anything.

Now I understand that these things run Windows in the background and probably take a few minutes to cool down / switch off after use.  But I've been leaving it for over an hour, and its immediately on when I turn the ignition key.
Doesn't sound right to me!  I'll maybe try upgrading its firmware and see if that helps.

I can help you out with most of your list - I'm still waiting for Directions on the MFD though.  It was maybe something I ticked at about 4pm when I got the Fiscon working!

Hope you get it sorted out p3eps. Get yourself out for a drive tho mate and enjoy your car for a bit. It's a little beauty.

Then when you come back, fit that Fiscon and send me a guide I wanna do mine tomorrow as I'm fitting my LED's then too

P3eps have you done a cold reset on the RNS510 < > & i on the unit? have you ticked the BAP protocol for mk6 golfs and also the shortpress steering wheel buttons needs to be ticked.

In the can gateway the navigation needs to be activated to get it in the mfd,

Yes that's what I mean. Its as if it sits in stand-by and then when the doors are unlocked it gets ready for action but without firing up the screen.

What I noticed with mine is if I leave it a long period of time like overnight, when I switch the ignition on it comes up on the screen "Starting up" or words to that effect. Yet if I leave it only a couple of hours it appears to boot instantly with no "Starting up" screen.

Darren

Thanks for the link.  I think I've got all that - the one I was missing was the Can Gateway one... which I got when I found the Telephone one for the Fiscon in the manual!!  I don't have shortpress ticked, but the buttons seem to work?

I'm more concerned by the unit being on all the time.  I'll try that Cold Reset tomorrow and see if it fixes it.

It wont fix it mate cos its not broke... the fan goes off about 20mins after you leave the car but once you unlock your car and get back in the unit will start back up even before your sat down,  its so it can start getting the navigation ready.

Don't worry about it mate its normal

You will see it if left over night and the unit is stone cold,

Just been out sitting in the car this morning - refitting my RNS510.

All went well... apart from I seem to have 'lost' my reverse cam.  I can't figure it out!
When I plug the RCD510 back in, the cam works, so I'm assuming its somewhere in the coding.  I also had it working with the RNS510 yesterday - so I don't know whats gone wrong.

Other than than, my steering buttons & MFD all work properly.

What exactly should I have checked for the Reverse Cam.  I've been through all of the options and think I've ticked them all... but it would be good to have a reference to check off against.

I seem to have a LOT of errors when I do a full scan though.

To enable the reverse camera you need to: -

Open the Navigation (37) controller and select coding, then long coding helper, then in the forth block set bit 6 to on (shown as "Backup Camera Low"), close the long coding and saving the new coding. Reboot the RNS-510 by pressing the "<" & ">" & "i" button.

Thanks Steve...

I will go double check after my dinner - but I have a funny feeling that ones already ticked.  Any more?

Also - how do I get the Dynaudio logo to appear on startup?
Title: Re: vagcom coding for audio / telephone... help please!

Under long coding there is an option (as a drop down list) to set the type of speakers/soundpack you have (again in the 37 - Navigation controller). Dynaudio needs to be set here.

Is that the bits Darren posted in his link in the first page of this thread?

I'll go try them now and let you know how I get on!

I had to nip out and fix an old lady's computer, so I've just spent the last 30 mins in the car with my laptop.
I've got the Dynaudio logo coming up - no probs, thanks.
The reverse cam however... ? ? ? ?
I have no idea whats going on, as it was working yesterday with the RNS, then today I get nothing.  I tried it with the RCD and it worked.

I cleared my fault codes from the 37 - Navigation bit, then rebooted the RNS.

It comes straight back with 1 fault...

I have never been able to get the reverse camera to work correctly on RNS-510's with 1200 firmware, I would personally upgrade it to 2680 (2720 if your feeling brave).

If I upgrade the firmware then I'll end up with the dreaded 'Regensberg Syndrom' as its an A-Version I have.
I was in 2 minds to try removing the Fiscon kit for a minute and see if it works again, as that was the only thing different that I can rememeber when I had it working yesterday.

What about an earlier version than 1200?  Would I still get reverse cam / on screen climate control then?
Title: Re: vagcom coding for audio / telephone... help please!

I believe any thing below 2660 will not do the climate or the camera?

'Regensberg Syndrome' is only bi problem if you park somewhere without GPS receipt, when I upgraded my version A unit to 2660 in my old Mk5 I had the problem twice, both times when I left the car in an underground car park.

When I was at home and the car left on the drive it was never a issue.

I'll give it a go tonight and see if it cures my reverse cam problem.  If the Regensberg Syndrom annoys me, then I'll just have to order a 'C' unit instead.  A pain in the ass, but I should get a 'C' for about 600 and sell my 'A' for 450-500.
The chaps on vwnavi are trying to cure Regensberg - so maybe there will be a solution one day!

I've got a B version with 2720 and don't get the Regensburg Syn??? Only time I saw it was when I first put the new software on.

I took the RNS out of the car and 'borrowed' a 12V power supply from work so I didn't have to sit in it for 50 minutes whilst it updated!
I put on a modded version of 2720 from vwnavi and left it for 50 mins.  I put the RNS back in the car, and when it booted up it was in Germany.  I put the car in reverse - exactly the same... no RVC.

I went through all the coding again - it all looked right, but still no RVC.  I rebooted the RNS.  It starts in Germany for about 5 seconds, then jumps to where I am.  I guess this is the Regensberg... as on 1200 it just started where I am.

Anyway... back to the Vagcom, and I thought I'd try disabling anything to do with the RVC and then retry it.  I disabled module '6C-Backup Cam' which had been giving me errors since day one.
Rebooted the RNS, and selected Reverse... Problem solved!!
I don't know where this 6C came from - but removing it in CAN Gateway has done the trick.

Thanks for the help guys...

Cheers for sharing all this info with us p3eps.

Can I ask who you got your Hex+Can lead from? I've been thinking I might just invest in one.

^6C is for the passat camera where the module is seperate of the camera.  so 6C should n't have been selected?  possibly selected by the dealer on pdi???

Glad you got it sorted though p3eps

I got this one:

£250 including postage, a case, manual and CD.
Not that the manual and CD are important as they'll both likely be out of date!!

I know... I had to do my order over the phone.  Ordered about 1pm, and arrived 9am next day.
It was recommended when the briskoda 'Group Buy' went a little pear shaped.

I'm glad I ordered one for coding all the stuff just now, but I can imagine it sitting in a drawer gathering dust in a few weeks.
A bit of a waste of money... but I guess I saved a bit by fitting my own RNS instead of paying the dealer through the nose!  The only difference is I don't get a natty shark fin aerial.  hey ho... its easier to polish / clean my roof without one!!
