Title: Removing bumper and headlight washers
Post by: Defender on 16 April 2010, 13:23
Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forum and wondered if anyone could give me some advice please?

Is there anyway to see if the headlight washer components are mounted behind the bumper without taking the bumper off? If I have to take the bumper off can someone give me some quick instructions please?

The reason I'm asking is my car has a washer tank piped for headlight washers but it isn't connected to anything and just spills washer fluid and the bumper definately hasn't got any headlight washers in it. Presumebly it's been crashed at some point and the front end has been replaced but I'd like to know if the bits and peices are there to buy a different bumper and connect it all back up.

In the event that all the bits are missing and its too much work/hassle/money to re-instate this feature whats the best way to blank off the pipe coming out of the washer tank?

many thanks,

Yeah probably the easiest way would be to remvoe the bumper - simple job.
A good how t oguide can be found here http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/t/122899.aspx
Ignore the part about removing the grill, you can just swing it up and tie it out of the way.

IMO the headlight washers are a waste of space, I've disconnected the motor so mine no longer waste the fluid - a tank now lasts so much longer!

Any probs pm me.

How have you blanked off the pipe?

I'll have to have a closer look as mine actually leaks when I fill the washer bottle!
