Hello,
I've recently bought a 2.0 GTi with 65k on the clock. It's totally standard, in good nick and I'm looking forward to a few mods.
Before I start the work, can anyone answer a few questions for me?
1. What's the largest rim diameter and width I can fit on the car without having any issues on rubbing/camber etc? I was planning to get some 17s
2. Has anyone got any pictures of a mk4 GTi running 17s without being lowered?
3. What options other than typical pi/Eibach/similar make springs to lower the car? I've lowered a few other cars and always detest the extra stiff ride. I like the look but don't want the harsh ride, ideally.
4. I had my eye on a 4motion rear valance - does it easily clip to the standard bumper I have currently?
5. I've noticed an odd noise when starting the car - after turning the key in the ignition the car makes the usual starting noise then it carries on half a second longer. I've tested a mk4 taht had a faulty ring gear but that noise was more harsh and longer so I hope it isn't that.
6. Has anyone got good experience on any cheap power upgrades (<£100)? Would a new panel filter help? Or, at a stretch, a new cone filter or inducted version.
7. I was ocnsidering getting a new exhaust. I've had a few Powerflow exhausts and I hate the noise (too deep). Is there an option for a more raspy noise? Miltek perhaps.
And I think that's it!
Thanks in advance for any help, my mods start tomorrow with an upgraded sound system. I have a spoiler ready to be fitted and the wheels will be next.

welcome along
1- im running 18's with about a 40mm drop no problems (225/40 18 tyres)
2- loads of pics in the mk4 section
3- your probably better off sticking with a spring kit although my coilies aint a harsh ride.
4- yes just clips on with a screw either side iirc
5- dont worry too much think i know what noise you mean and they pretty much all make that noise
6- with the 2.0 you aint gonna get much more power than stock unfortunatly
7- miltek exhausts are very good with the option of resinated/non resinated
hope that helps but if not have a nosey in the mk4 section

Thanks for the replies and welcomes.
I've been lurking for a while so have a few ideas for wheels etc and look forward to posting some pictures.
Are there any Golf specialist garages around Herts/Essex/North London?
