Title: Coil = Dead, how to fit new one?
Post by: buzzkip on 14 April 2010, 12:14
Hi all,

So my car has been misfiring and then finally packed up and won't start. I've replaced the distributor cap, leads & spark plugs.

Now I've ordered a new Coil (Link to the Coil I ordered (http://"http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Volkswagen_Golf_2.0_1993/p/Car-Parts/Engine-Parts/Ignition/Ignition-Coils/?413440471&1&1329d0b92506353bfcaaeff22981e030f8831612&IGCO")), but I don't know whether there are any things I need to know before changing it??

Could someone please help?

Thank you!

Changing is easy Mate. One connector and the HT lead to remove then two nuts and bolts to remove. The coil is then off but you will need to open up the scuttle panel to replace the nuts and bolts. Changed mine recently and it took approx 10 minutes.

Thank you Deano!

I bought this off of eurocarparts for £28, the garage I took my car to wants £107 for the whole thing sorted. Baha

Yeah man super easy! I've done 2 now. Only thing I found it was a bit fiddly behind the scuttle panel getting the nuts in line for the bolts, bonnet was in the way, but only 30secs inconvenience.

Cheers,

Any ideas what size spanner I'll need? Or screw driver etc. I don't have the car with me right now as I need to go over and fix it, so I need the tools with me.

Thanks!

Can't exactly remember but pretty sure it's an 8mm and a set of pliers will hold the nut at the back enough to tighten up. Doesn't need to be mega tight Mate.

Scuttle panel screws are odd as well (the big plastic ones) they kinda twist and pull out, but you need to squeeze them under the head to get them out
