Title: poorly wheel
Post by: Neil gti on 13 April 2010, 17:53

Not happy, i went to a little village today to price a job up and an Artic was trying to get through the parked cars,
I pulled over to let him weave through, as he was getting upto me i could see that if i stayed where i was he was going to take the full side of my car out,
Only choice i had was to mount the kerb

atleast the rest of the car is ok neil... looks like it will be alot more simple to repair than a monza though

Got a price to do all 4 wheels cos a couple of them are stonechipped,
Repaint and satin laquer £100 (not laquered at mo and dirt just sticks like glue)
So the R32 wheels will be back on for a few days

I had to double check when I saw the photo, as it looks a totally different colour to the wheels in your sig.
Must just be the light in the close up.

Yes def same wheels just in a different light,
That crunching noise as the wheel is grinding along the kerb edge is ahhhhhh

When you know that your stuck - and going forward or backwards is going to be equally as bad for the wheel!

thats exactly what happened to my alloys- thou the extent of damage was minor.  sorry mate.  the sound from the alloys was the worst feeling i've had- you just knew you'd f'd the wheels.

luckily they were replaced when i had my crash.

Yep.. similar to what i though i.e. thats not poorly... thats foooooked

tbf to Neil its often hard to see from pictures how much those rims stick out. If you struggle to keep your monzas kerb free, then you have no chance with those sexy rims!! :embarassed:

Getting all four re done this week, so be all posh again  especially when Leds are fitted aswell,

They will be better than before, the factory paint on them is thinner than vws paint
Very easy stone chipped and showing orangey coloured primer through them
thats why all four have been removed and also getting them laquered in a satin finish

My damaged wheel has risen back from the dead

Only to find a nail in the tyre and losing pressure

Get it fixed tomorrow and put them back on again, fully refurbed and as good as new

Sweet...
Looking good.

My rears have a nice stone chip peppered effect with white primer showing.

A trip to the powder coaters come the bad weather methinks.
Give them a proper hard wearing coating.

I also found out that there is a name etched into one of the spokes on the face of each wheel, that has been filled
I have seen a pic of these somewhere it says something like KAMIE (or something like that)
the bodyshop found it while they where rubbing them down

Yes, they can...but with shipping and taxes, it comes out pretty much even, if not dearer.
I did enquire...and ended up goung with VWR as they had them on offer at a decent price (mine were from the same batch as Neils)
