has anyone else come across this problem?
thought it was my old ecu but now ive swapped engines and got a vr6 ecu, same problem cant connect to it and i need to recode my ecu to my immobeliser.
just comes up with an error code of 'no response from controller'

no, it wont connect to that either says the same thing.
what do you think it couild be?

i dont think its the lead or laptop because a friend that works in vw tried to connect the car ages ago but couldnt connect to the ecu, and i have used my laptop to connect to a friends tt engine ecu, for some reason it just wont connect to the ecu, it has to be a problem with the wiring, has anyone got a diagram of the obd circuit?

ive checked the link wiring and its fine, it goes from the obd2 socket to the immobelisor box, then to the engine ecu, but still cant connect to the ecu or immobelisor box...

sounds like the immob box isnt powering up, there is a chunky brown earth wire, and a thin black wire which is ign live

its weird because i had the same problem with my abf, it wouldnt connect, i think the immob box is powering up because it allowed the old engine to start, the earth and power wires are fine, ill double check.
Have you got a diagram for the immob box?

Thats wat i thought but checked and the link wire is fine :sad:
its getting annoying now, cant see why it wont work.
Just need to find a diagram of the immob box.
What would happen if i diverted the link wire around the immob box and straight to the engine ecu, that way i could see if there is a fault with the immob box?

if the engine ran on this car before with same immob box and the ecu was deffo an immob type, then the transponder box is powering up and connection between it and ecu must have been ok. Also since you can connect to the abs this prooves the diagnostic plug wiring is fine.
look above the fusebox you'll spot a large black connector block, this is where all the diagnostic wiring goes. I wonder if the diagnostic plug for the immob box has popped out of here, would explain why everything else still works but not engine or immob...

Thanks for the pics, but ive checked evrything :sad: only thing left is to unplug and bridge the grey and grey/white wires to check if it reads the ecu then, but i dont know if this is safe?

i bridged the connector and now it connects to my engine ecu, im guessing my immob box is at fault :angry:
When i buy a new one do i need to get it with the key chip or can i code it usuing vagcom?

you need to get an immob box with a matched chip, swap chip into your key, then match to your ecu with vag-com. if you get a box without a matched key only VW can add keys

Hi, not sure if you have sorted this. I found your thread when trying to sort mine. I first checked mine with a ECU kit I knew worked. Still couldnt get the ethos to connect to the ECU. So then hunted around the fuse box (should of done this first) and found a small grey wire broken. Connected it back together and sure enough it was fixed. The only reason anyone has been behind the fuse box was to fit a immobiliser thats when it must have got broken.

Yh my problem was the actual immobilizer box blocking access to my engine ecu, i got a new immob box and now it works fine.
