Title: Collection
Post by: James Gould on 13 April 2010, 15:55
Should I drive from Newcastle to Durham to collect the car or let the dealer bring it through for me?
I told him that I'd go to the dealership because I was thinking that if I were to have any questions/queries, easier to deal with them if I find them when still at the dealership rather than at home. However, the dealer (who is a good guy) said that he'll personally check everything over before he lets it go so I can't see the point of going through myself  -  I'm now thinking that if the dealer drives it to NCL for me, if there is anything not quite right, he'll hear/see it which is better than me noticing a problem when driving back to NCL.
Thanks.

If it was me James , I would go to get the car myself then I can check it before it leaves the dealership!! The car should get the full monty from your self as in checking for any defects on the car??? Hope its a brilliant motor enjoy Steve

+1.
Go to the dealer to check it and then if you are happy drive it back yourself.
Don't trust them.
OR,
You can get Snoops (sorry Snoops!) to give it the once over, if he has the time. As you know, he is a great guy, is ultra fussy, a perfectionist and totally trustworthy. If he is happy with the car's condition, then you can ask them to deliver it to you.
Just a thought.

Right. And he'll personally top up the wash bottle with unicorn tears  Collect it yourself, then you can check if there's anything missing such as as the iPod cable, top up oil etc. Take a checklist. And finally, you get the pleasure of that first long run back up the A1!

.... first long run back up the A1!

Must be a gag in there somewhere.  The only fast run would be through to Chester - it's normally nose to tail from there north.

I only do that run occasionally, and it's always at weekends. The sight of the Angel makes it all worthwhile...

I personally wouldn't trust someone not to sh*g the ars* out of it when it was being delivered. But then that's just me.

If you went to collect it and found problems before leaving the garage, they would be more inclined to sort it there and then than if you got it delivered.

Its at most probably 30 miles you may as well go and pick it up imo. I do the Durham to Newcastle trip everyday.

James

Def go & pick it up! My dealer offered to drop off my car but I politely declined having seen how the cars were being driven just off the transporter!!!

Second, it's easier to check the car over at the dealership in your own time & you can ask any questions or have anything (small) you're not happy with put right then & there!

I'll keep it short and sweet.

Go yourself.

I'm terrified that my car will have about 6 miles on it when I pick it up as they'll have had to drive it to PDI it etc.  What could they have done in those few miles?
I would hate to think what they could do in 30+ miles delivery.

I used to deliver hire cars for Avis, and I certainly wouldn't want my car to be treated the way we treated them.  I've grown up a bit since then (over 10 years ago!), but you can never be sure who your driver is going to be.

Definate pick up for me.

My little darling was driven 200 miles when I took delivery!
The footwells were filthy with mud and stones. I asked the guy why he was such a messy ass. I nearly made him walk in the rain to the tube station. But then he agreed to fill the tank!

You are too good for this world...I would have him filling the tank...licking my footwells clean AND walking in the rain to the tube....better still... ripping his ticket apart...

I grew wings for a moment!
But they were short-lived as my tail took over. He could see I was not very happy. I asked him whether he carried a portable vacuum cleaner! Embarrassed him beautifully!
