Title: temperature gauge stopped working

hi guys, just a quick one . . .
temperature gauge just dropped whilst driving the other day, and hassnt worked since.
is this a common problem? any ideas how to fix it?

Engine type, 8v or 16v?
Maybe the sender wire has broken, become detached or the sender itself has packed up. Different on 8v &16v.

turns out it was the sender. its an 8v 1.6 carb driver.

the guy who serviced it changed it, but said he didnt use a vw one?  :undecided:
and now it reads really high. is this normal? im guessing not?

no its not! get a proper sender from VW before you start chasing your tail on problems!

i had same prob with copy temp senders - gauge read high and block over temp light came on too early

bought a german made one off vwspares and it's spot on now
