I'm having a go at removing the redundant windscreen wiper bulge on my MK2. Having hacked the plug out it seems that rust has got into the hole and appears to have progressed under the windscreen seal. So it looks like the screen needs to come out! Anyone ever done this and if so how??
-
Saw the Autowindscreens bloke take my screen out by basically pulling very hard on the screen using big suction handles!
That 'spare' wiper hole isn't totally useless, if you look underneath that panel it holds the wiper motor frame in place.

Well now that i've started removing the rusted metal there's no way the plug is going back in. How do people secure the wiper motor frame in place when they smooth over this hole?
-
most people get the 3rd wiper hole welded over. there is no real need to get at the wiper motor frame. at the most u'll only ever replace the motor. not the frame/mechanism
-
JV mentioned that this plug also held the wiper motor frame in place, are you saying that this is not necessary and I can just weld over without securing it, at the moment it is just wagging loose in the cavity?
-
yes it can be welded over. there is more than one bolt holding the frame in place
try using your wipers with the plug out. they operate fine

OK, I'll probably jam it down to stop it rattling then weld over. Thanks.
