Title: squeeling noise
Post by: carrie on 22 November 2004, 17:48
cars developed squeeling noise about 30 from o/s/f its constant and in all gears it sound like a fan belt slipping noise but cant be this as its not rev related, also my o/s engine mount has broke 5 months ago (not metal wise but the rubber has left the building) could this of caused it (i.e. damage)? am giong to look at it in next few days and wondered if any one has any pointers (may even replace mount aswell while i'm at it as engine wobbles through the car under load)

Hi carrie, is the squealing coming from by the timing belt housing ? If so you sound like you have the same trouble as I had the other week and in my case it was the timing belt tensioner wheel. I did a thread in the garage the other week, I'll find them and do a link in here.?

EDIT: My thread the other week is here, see if you have the same symtoms.

Mine wasn't speed that started it off carrie but I did find that it didn't happen when I first started the car up, I checked on the mfa and it always seemed to come on after about five minutes of driving and an oil temp of 52 and then squealed away all the time even when I was sat in traffic.    I thought mine was fanbelt but I took my fan belt off so that I could go and get another and reversed the car back a few feet (with no fan belt on) and the car still squealed.

If yours only squeals over 30mph then I doubt it's the belt tensioner :undecided:

Does the noise change when you touch the brakes, may be brakes or wheel bearing related.

it seems to be a constant noise once over 30 regardless of speed/braking etc

Wind noise or heater motor?, I know it sounds weird but open the window and play around with the heater blower and see if that changes anything.

its definatley comming from the o/s/f wheel area may just send it to a garage to be fixed or dump it in a garage until i'm in a better mood with it i think the steering is going now aswell. i am beggining to really hate the car now.
