Title: Fault codes ????
Post by: VW BUSH on 12 April 2010, 13:19
Running like a bucket of spanners, codes showing are 00530 and 00533.
Clear the codes runs ok for a bit then spanners again.

Now in me book one is the throttle position sensor and the other is Idle control valve.
Problem is ADY 8v does not have an ISV!!! so what could they possibly mean? MAF?

Throttle position sensor = VW+ Vaseline if  i am not wrong has anyone bought one lately?

Does anyone know for sure the code description as its gonna get the petrol and match treatment before i spend loads of money i dont have

00530 Throttle Position Sensor -G88
00533 Idle Air Control Regulation

what are the additional information codes after the error codes? should have 2 or 4 codes, these tell you specifically whats up, i.e. out of range, short to ground etc.  I'd start by cleaning the throttle body till its spotless.

I have cleaned the TB so that you can see your face in it, Its part of my monthly tug boat chores!
It has given me no indications as to the fault on each particular fault code i have had however a G61 knock sensor fault which cleared last time but has not shown again???, Coil pack and Module has just gone south so it has a brand spanking new one on it. I disconected the battery for 10 mins and reset computer after fitting and all seemed well until Saturday (after it passed the MOT) when it started running rubbish again.

What is the IACR and how is it controlled, The ADY engine does not have a dedicated ISV(?) so it must be a combination of readings from different sensors(?)

The engine got hot in traffic as well until fan kicked in which leads me to think a temp sensor might be iffy will change the stat and fan switch as a precaution but could this be affecting the ECU and how it controls the engine?
All the other Mk3 bugs seem ok but i dont want to start buying sensors and relays randomly until i fix it as i will never know exactly what is giving me grief.

I want to keep the car going while i save for a new(er) one or find a nice older one

The idle on these is controlled by a stepper motor inside the tb i think, you may have success recoding the throttle body with vag-com:
