Title: 8 valve and 16 valve gearboxes, are they compatible

Hiya lads, im a mk2 owner, But my mate who is not on here has gota  mk3 gti 8valve, His gearbox has broken,
So i been down local scrappage scheme scrap yard an they got a mk3 gti 16valve in there, An the geezer wants 200 quid 4 the lot, Engine Gear box an all ancillarys,
i dont know much about the gearboxes but will this gearbox fit on his 8 valve,

Yep it will fit but you need to change the pedal box due to the 16v clutch being hydraulically operated.

I thought 16v was cable change and 8v was rod??

yh not really worth changing, + you will have to get a master and slave cylinder for the clutch

Forgot about that one as well, yea cable change.

Is it worth it? You might as well to drop the 16v engine in there as well.

Yeah i was gunna stick some of the engine bits in my mk2 16valve though, An tell him the gearbox cost 200 quid  :grin: :grin:

also have to fit 16v gearstick & cables, and flywheel & clutch. The hydro clutch you can work around by fitting SEAT ABF hydro->cable conversion kit.
