Title: 8 valve and 16 valve gearboxes, are they compatible
Post by: beechymonza on 12 April 2010, 13:12: Hiya lads, im a mk2 owner, But my mate who is not on here has gota mk3 gti 8valve, His gearbox has broken,
So i been down local scrappage scheme scrap yard an they got a mk3 gti 16valve in there, An the geezer wants 200 quid 4 the lot, Engine Gear box an all ancillarys,
i dont know much about the gearboxes but will this gearbox fit on his 8 valve,

Post by: Adam on 12 April 2010, 13:15: Yep it will fit but you need to change the pedal box due to the 16v clutch being hydraulically operated.

yh not really worth changing, + you will have to get a master and slave cylinder for the clutch

Forgot about that one as well, yea cable change.

Is it worth it? You might as well to drop the 16v engine in there as well.

Post by: rubjonny on 12 April 2010, 14:11: also have to fit 16v gearstick & cables, and flywheel & clutch. The hydro clutch you can work around by fitting SEAT ABF hydro->cable conversion kit.
