would a 60/40 kit look low on 16" cades with 195 45 16 tyres?
-
That's EXACTLY the same setup that I want to run :)
I've seen few pictures around here, and looks pretty good to me. Not too low, but practical around town.
-
Mine is 60/40mm on 205/45/16's. Looks good and runs well Mate. Go for it.
-
It'll never look as good as mine.
-
you tell em joe, these copy cats eh
-
Well i'm down 120mm on the front and its still not low enough! 60mm would be like a land rover
-
they have to carry step ladders with them
* dont wanna hear non of this "its a daily" crap, mines a daily i use it every day doing lots or miles and mines down a hell lot more than 60mm
-
When you say it's your daily does that include the Mrs and kids every time you go out ??
-
Some people don't have it so low because of particular areas they live in, or places they know they have to go. Mine's down quite low, and it's just about right, however lots of scraping has occurred under the car, the splitter I don't care much for, but the underside, that's a different story.
Besides, it's the owners choice to do what they want, with their car.
If Joe wants to put a VR6 badge on a 1.6 MK3, so be it, admittedly he's a bit of a gimp for doing so but it's his car, and it has been modded to a very good standard so can get away with it (minus the lack of V6 noise when booting it).
If kells wants to keep his car sparkly clean 24/7 so be it, people take pride in their work and possessions, so why shouldn't he keep it looking presentable.
If I want to scrap mine in August due to a broken engine, I will, do you know why?
It's my f**king car.
-
Hey Shady....if you do scrap it let me have first refusal on your bootlid as some w***er has just parked a transit in mine
-

Remind me nearer the time, I'll no doubt be putting up a breaking thread anyway so I'll take bits off before I take it to the scrapyard.

Only joking Buddy....need one now Mate. Accident has damaged the number plate and number plate lights as well as a big dent in the panel. Need to get it done sooner rather than later. Cheers anyway though.

Daily driven, splitter scrapes pulling off my own driveway, downpipe scrapes driving down my road, wishbone mounts hit the floor when driving down the lane towards my work
It gets its fair share of abuse

Your going to be  but very well said. :afro:

Thanks Wayne :afro:

Fair play to ya Mate....I would love to go that low but would not be able to get on my drive and there's no way I am leaving it on the street to be used as a goalpost.
-
On your guys 120m drops have you had your arches rolled? Mines dropped 60 and is on 16/195/45's and can be a right old pain, so don't really want to go lower, even though I want to. I like being able to throw friends in the car, but even 3 up is super cringeworthy due to the noise at the back
-
Mine aren't rolled
But they are hammered flat
-
Oh God any excuse for Joe to put up pics of his car!
It's a good job it looks nice! :afro:
-
Well he wants the same wheels as me, I was just showing him what he's got to aim for
-
With respect the op was asking about a 60/40 drop not can it be slammed.
Maybe he likes his spine and fillings as they are.
-
Lolz at spinal trauma caused by low ride height.
Joe are your wheels rubbing at all? Mines not helped by having a messed up offset corrected by massive spacers
-
No mate no rubbing whatsoever and I'm running ET15 front and ET0 rear! (20mm spacers on the front and 35mm spacers on the rear)
There's enough arch space to go lower without any rubbing, and I have a smaller splitter, but my downpipe and wishbone mounts are taking a battering at the moment

its a firm ride matey, but you do get used to it, the recaros are very firm too so you feel all the bumps but i like it and they (other half and kid) are used to it.
i do scrape my exhause bracket on my drive and some speed bumps and the splitter takes a beating but other than that its fine, some cambers can cause issues too im sure joe will know what i mean.
as shady says you just gotta do what makes you happy really
@ Archie837 re arch work, i have had alot done to mine, rolled and flaired, i could go alot lower and fit bigger or wider rims but im happy with its stance and how it drives so ill leave as is for now
-
Move to London, then talk about lowering 120mm
There are humps on dual carriageways here
-
same here, makes no odds where they are matey, humps are humps and their is more and more all the time, once u learn how to drive a LOW car you will be fine, and its soo much fun pissing other road users off by taking speed bumps at 1mph
-
Yes Kells, know exactly what you mean about the camber of the road! That's when I get trails of sparks coming from my downpipe lol (goes under the sump on my car)
-

I prefer to go over them at 20mph, so that's why I don't want to go too low
-
your car wont last long going over them at 20mph no matter what suspension your rocking
-
Agree with kells on that.
I've just got some 40mm front and 35mm rear shocks, springs. I know its not that low but it'l stiffen up the ride abit and handle a tad better. dont wanna go any lower I dont fancy replacing bits every other day
-
I'm dying to get them put on to see how it'l look n drive
I'm like a kid with a new toy haha
Get them fitted this week sometime for sure
-
How much do garages ask for fitting coilies?
I don't want to spend 200 on coilies, and another 100 for fitting
Around 50 sounds sensible.
-
u willbe looking at between 100 and 150 at a garage
-
If you were closer to me dude I'd fit them for £25
As for speed bumps, 1st gear jobby for me, plus I have to go sideways! And my sills still hit! lol
-
There are speed bumps near me and it's FAR softer to accelerate over them at 50 MPH then it is going 10-20 MPH.
-
Oh and well said Shady. :afro:
Lowness is not everything. Does not make you cool.
And I would not be putting small kids in a really low car. (Not aimed at anyone)
-
Fitting coilies vary from place to place, most charge per axle (Front and Rear)
I've been quoted £30 each so £60 all round which sounds pretty reasonable to me ^^
Oh the Garage was "Autostreet" in Enfield, Good bunch of young guys :)
-

why (clearly aimed at me too )

Clearly wasn't aimed at you actually, it was more a back up for Deano, honestly missed your post. ;)
Because kids have soft bones. It's also uncomfortable for them.
Just my opinion on the subject. ;)
-
Hmmmm it's doing my nut in. Thought it might be the spacers, I've got a 35 mm kit as well on the back. The only thing i'm pretty sure it is, is the previous tracksuit wearing owner did the shocks. Dunno what brand, but it's a yellow and red cup kit so most likely gmaxx or something and more than likely knackered to boot. But obviously no bump stops built in on them. So guess it's just that

Okies but cant see how you missed my post when deano was replying to me??? but any how thats a daft reply mate, have you got kids?? do you know how much they fall over and get bruised haha  they heal very quickly at that age too, a lowered car is not gonna cause any problems trust me, she falls asleep in mine   plus we got a wicked Recaro child seat, very well protected and is very comfy, im sure she would let me know if not

Honest, I just saw Deano say "have you got wife and kids".
No I don't have kids and I'm not judging anyone's parenthood. ;) Good to see you not just buying a cheap kids seat as well. :afro:
Like I said it's just my opinion, maybe it's fine maybe not, I don't have to worry I guess.

S'Kay son, s'kay.
Nah I hate fruitcake, chocolate cake. ;)

Oh ignore me I'm in a really sarcastic mood
As you were
-
OK.
TBF I shouldn't have commented.
The last lowered car I was in was a Corsa down 80mm on springs and 17"s.
Ride was as rough as an Amsterdam slapper.
-
Could be worse.. fizz of corrie could be your bird... now that would be un cool....
-
-
Kells I read on facebook she was your perfect bird ??
Did I misunderstand, was it actually Chuffs perfect bird?
-

deffo not mine she is horrid, real real bad
-
you keep telling yourself that kells.
-
This is why I love this forum....starts about someone asking about lowering their ride and moves onto everyone taking the piss out of each other !!!!!!! Great stuff
-
Well it turned sh!t after everyone decided it wasn't low enough.
Good sacrifice IMO, good laugh this forum. :afro:
-
Nothing wrong with a lowered car plus kids, I have found they can be less car sick if the car is not soft and rolling around loads.
-
I also have had no issues with kids in the car. The ride on mine is not bumpy but is bouncy if you know what I mean. As Kells says if you buy a decent car seat then the comfort is still there. My four year old encourages me to race other cars which I always say no to of course
-

-
Question for Deano - What suspension are you using?? Also is it springs/uprated shocks?? OR springs and your standard shocks??
Christo
-
I used lowering springs and VR6 shockers. Ride is not bad really, don't feel bumps like I thought you would but it does bounce a bit if you know what I mean. Should be better really but my budget wouldn't allow it and touchwood had no problems yet
-
ahh yeah i remember now. I get mine fitted tomorrow, me n my mates doing it, 40front, 35rear. should stiffen it up abit
