Title: 1.8 Throttle body gasket - car caught fire
Post by: Matty-MK3 on 11 April 2010, 18:37
Tried to start my uber reliable Golf ( ) today and it wouldn't go, and then it did start and revved the sh!te out of itself. Did this a few times until I took a looksie and the bleeding throttle body was shooting flames!

So put the fire out and went to call the boss for a lift.

f**king thing, anyone got a part number at all?

I've had a look and it's like a rubber thing that clamps down then the throttle body clamps over that. It's all split and a little crispy.

Will motor factors do them or is it a ECP or a TPS thing?

Cheers.

Had to get mine from VW. Discounted was £36. Fairly easy to change as its just 10mm bolts. When mine finally split and I tried starting it I'd get pops of thick grey smoke coming out of it, not flames though!
