Title: hate this car ...sump plug stuck
Post by: Rmachines on 11 April 2010, 15:05
Hi, my sump plug is stuck!  I have just had some serious force on it with a hell of a lever bar, and it just will NOT shift!!  Its starting to round off now!

Any one had this problem before? I cant get my manky oil out

I wonder if its been cross threaded when the oil was changed the last time. Try a good set of stillsons on it and see if that grips it and undoes it. If not then you may have to get it drilled out.

Weld a bigger nut on it, if it is crossthreaded then you going to need to sort the threads.

mine was a right thingy!!!
I'm glad I've been weight trying for last 2/3 years. lol I had two foot bar and got on my back to pressed it up. It took as much force to bench 120kg!

^ Shouldn't undo things with a torque wrench.

You can try Irwin/Snap-On nut extractors, they work well but you need to hammer them on and obviously you can't go mad on a sump!

I'd try and to as Wayne suggested and weld on a bigger nut. :)

i had the same problem mate about 6months ago sump nut would just not let go

i heated the nut up until red hot with map gas (which took a long time)  then hammered a 14mm socket over it, waited until it cooled then a nice long bar and it came out easy

HA! unlucky mind you the times i have put oil in without the sump plug in you would think i would learn by now,  left the filter off a car once and started it,  made a nice little water fall of oil... Oil fall?  hm,  anyway nah i havnt got it out yet will bring home my extractors, and impact gun this week and give it a go!
