Ok, following on from the great deal Chris has on his G220's just now I'd like to get one, but I'm sorta stuck as to what I need.
I assume....
Meguiars G220
Meguiars Soft Buff Cutting Pad
Meguiars Polishing Pad
Meguiars Finishing Pad
I already have Dodo Juice Lime Prime Lite, and Lime Prime for the polishes.
Anything else I need that I have missed ?
-
You could probably leave out the Cutting Pad but maybe add a few spot pads and smaller backing plate.
Sorry i'm not trying to get you to spend more money, just a bit of advice
Chris

yer as chris said leave the cutting pad out and get a smaller backing plate and some spot pads, makes it easier for smaller areas ie pillers and getting into corners of panels etc etc.

Thanks Dan.

i'd get one of the polishing kits available
this will give you all the combinations you need
If I were starting off I would get
Finishing pad
Polishing pad
Cutting pad - if I wanted to do correction (only if it were necessary)
I would also get the following menz polishes
final finish - 85rd
menz super finish - 106fa
intensive finish - 85rd 3.02
3M fast cut plus - ONLY if you are carrying out severe correction
HOWEVER
you could kick off with a polishing/finishing pad and your lime prime IF you were not going to be carrying out any correction - if you can get hold of a PTG then do so as knowledge of how much you are removing is of primary importance
-
PTG's are expensive

shouldn't be a problem for you kev!!
maybe find someone who has one... tbh you should be ok as yours will be all robot paint (hopefully)

Robot who what now ?
I'm a complete novice when it comes to this paint/machine polish stuff.
I calculated it up the other day, I've spent about £840 on detailing so far, I really dont want to spend another £100+ on machine, ££'s on pads, and another £150-£200 on a PTG. It's not a misses thing, its just enough is enough I think.
-
Does it need machine polishing your car less than six months old ? :undecided:
-
Well that's a yes and no question.. No to paint correction, but you'd get a better finish polishing using a machine polisher used correctly!

I'd also add to that, that its bloody tough work polishing by hand. Anything to make it easier and superior results sounds good to me.

How about that? I bought the menzerna kit last week, used it at the weekend and found the results astonishing.

Thanks steven, I was hoping to pick up a G220 though

The pro version of the DAS-6 has a 850w motor whereas the G220 has 550w and the cable is twice as long too. Thats what swayed my decision when i chose the DAS-6.
You'll be pleased with the results either way. (I was too busy with my new stuff to take any photos though :lipsrsealed:)

i must say that I used the DAS-6 PRO the other day and I was mightly impressed
-
Think were (brother in law) are going to go for the das-6 pro too. Since were halfing in for all the pads/machine etc he really likes the das-6 pro so I dont think I have much of a choice here but heard nothing but good things from the das-6 pro so I think I'll be a happy camper.
-
Looks like a good kit.
I'm having machining lessons next month so DA or Rotary selection depends how I get on with both.
