Title: Removing DSG gaitor?
Post by: p3eps on 11 April 2010, 10:19
A simple question...
On my MK5 Manual car, I could simply put my hand into the gear gaitor beside the ashtray area, and gently pull - which lifted the whole gaitor up.  It allowed me to access the 2 screws that hold the ashtray in place.

I want into this area again for fitting my Micro Road Pilot in the ashtray again - but this time I will have DSG.  Is it the same method? Can I just pull it off?!

Just get a trim removal tool to lift the it from the front (nearest to the hand brake level) and the whole plastic piece around the DSG selector will pop out

So it just comes off the same - I just don't have the soft gaitor bit to put my hand in?
I have some trim type tools, so I should manage without wrecking it
Thanks!

I took mine off ages ago to have a little nosy into the wiring. The best way I found was to slide my fingers into the Gaiter next to 'S' and pull the Gaiter up from there. It takes a wee tug and then it just comes up and off. to replace just put it back down and push down. Done it loads of times and never any probs.
