Title: Mk4 gttdi compression test results ( help )
Post by: mk4 nutter on 10 April 2010, 11:15
Recent to my last post about gttdi 110 smoking I have now done a compression test and the results are........

Dry  1st cylinder 30 bar/440psi   2nd cylinder 22 bar/320psi   3rd cylinder 23 bar/340psi   4th cylinder 29 bar/420psi

wet 1st cylinder 36 bar/520psi   2nd cylinder 29 bar/420psi   3rd cylinder 29 bar/420psi   4th cylinder 36 bar/520psi

So could the deviation in the cylinders be causing it to smoke and run rough or is it still in tolerance and should i look

at getting the injectors and pump checked ???????

Today i spoke to a very reputable diesel specialist, and they said im barking down the wrong tree with the compression as the cause of the smoking,

They are 99% sure it is diesel timing related so today i have swopped the injectors and pump over and still the same !!!! but what whent through my mind

is that somthing has slipped has any one had any issues with this problem ?????

Your compression figures are all over the shop, that needs looking at as a 1st step.

Boost leak would be black smoke due to the unburnt diesel so saying it stinks of diesel and being white is a bit weird.

Are you using any oil or water? Headgasket?

Have you had a look at the injector looms? Can you get it checked for error codes using VAG-COM then maybe do some logs on the injectors.

+1
Run another test, the cylinders shouldn't differ that much.
