I will take a few more soon!
am1w,
Very nice in red which set of the brake callipers perfectly. Oh to have a wee drive.
Do you have the suspension up-grade ? I don't so I am wondering how the ride is with normal suspension.
My daughter said to the wife today at the dealers , how am I supposed to sit in the back ? No she does not eat a lot of burgers.
Wife said don't you worry Kara you can sit in the front with daddy. Is this my wife's plan so I don't drive fast
-
All this time and just two pics??!!
Congratulations am1w.. nice colour
-
Nice car mate, Red is best
-
Red is good, looks nice, can't wait.
-
Thanks all. Kind of you. Love the car.
As you know, I buggered up the offside front wing by dropping my briefcase + food shopping as I was in a tearing hurry to get out of the wind and rain. There were 4 depressions and one nice dent. Been fixed but I can still see a bit of waviness in bright sunlight in 3 places. But one really has to look very, very carefully which I am doing all the time!
It was fixed on a grey day. Trust my luck!
He is coming back to improve on it on Monday. My stupid fault. Pretty annoyed with myself still!
-
Hi Captain.
To answer your question.
I have ACC and I like it very much.
I must admit I like the better ride in the 'comfort' setting over the 'normal' setting. However, the steering response is a bit too slow in the 'comfort' setting which I certainly don't like. The car rides more like a limo in the 'comfort' setting which I do like very much. Some may say the car has a tendency to float (just like a limo!).
The 'normal' setting is supposed to be the best compromise, with good steering response and a good ride. It is quite clever. However, I use the 'comfort' setting for driving in London as it really smoothes out the bumps quite effectively.
My last car was a Honda Type R GT which was a living hell on our bad roads. Exciting but very tiring. Better engine, steering and gearbox than the Golf, but too raw overall.
The 'sport' setting really makes the car come alive, the ride getting a bit more frantic but not uncomfortable. However, the steering is a bit too heavy for my liking and is a pain especially when parking.
What I would like is the 'comfort' setting with the steering of the 'normal' mode!
Or,
The ability to have greater possibilities of mixing and matching!
So that is my take on this!
PS: Lock the two women at home sometimes and go for a drive on our own!

So glad I got white!! hahaha  Very nice motor, but you know whats next , white 20 bhp quicker  I hope you have some fantastic driving experances on those twisty bits??? Enjoy Steve30

The Golf is the best car in white bar none. No doubt. No other car looks so amazing in white IMO. The simplicity of the design + white makes a perfect combo. That perfect white. Oooo! Again MO.
Red, IMO, is a close second.
This I will maintain to my dying day!
PS: Damn, I should have got a white one! Like giving candy to a baby! :embarassed:

Your engine should'nt have a rattle? Its a differant engine to the TFSI? I would have a second opinion on that?

Compared to my Honda it does. No engine is so quiet when idling as the Honda. And then, when you let it rip, it was fabulous! You know, I do miss it a bit! Great engine, fabulous gearbox, highly geared steering. Loved it. However, the Golf is better overall. No doubt!
-
AM1W, Reds better than white
Door sill pic when you get the chance mate and the paint ones for my reference please.
Thanks

Thanks. Tomorrow I will click for the door sills (trims?) and paint ones ('A' pillars, inside front wings and boot floor?). I am still a novice with photoshop.
Will do my best. Getting stressed already!

Been a son of a fireman i was never allowed non metallic red cars when i was younger as thats what the fire inspectors, chiefs or head office used as there 'company' cars. The one time i did have a red car i got the p1ss ripped out of me non stop by my dad and his mates / work mates. If you remember londons burning the tv program, the way they acted/joked on and ripped each other to bits is very true to real life with that lot.

All that time had passed and you had either taken the pictures on the day you got the car or you decided to take it back to the dealership to take pictures. How bizarre
Anyway lovely looking car. I had every faith in you.
About your accident on the wing, I had a ding that was repaired but because the paint has already been stretched due to the dent, when it is straightened back up, the paint won't flow like the rest of the paintwork. It will have a very slight ripple to it. I doubt very much if anyone would ever be able to spot mine but because I know it is there and only because I know it is there, I notice it only after washing and polishing the car.

I took the pictures with my Blackberry 9700 a few days after I got the car but thought they would not be good enough for you guys on the forum. Besides, I had no clue how to post them. One of them is at the dealership and the other is at home. The car was a bit wet and dirty due to all the rain. Thankfully does not show too much, but the wheels are darker than normal.
Yes, there is that very small ripple problem, but my guy usually can get rid of much of this too on a second try. All my stupid fault. His son is going to be a patient of mine. Bartering does help! Now I have given the game away!
-
Hello am1w
How are you? your car is lovely, I nearly went for the red myself but having had 3 black cars now I just couldn't bring myself to venture into tornado country .
I too like the ACC but we have loads of twisty roads around Whitby so it's nice to bang it into sport mode and give it some welly.
Someone scraped it the other week so I've now had that fixed cost me £135 and I hope the barsteward that did it is feeling remorseful, tho I doubt it somehow. What is it with people these days that they damage your pride and joy and then just p*ss off without leaving a note to apologise .
Anyway rant over hope you continue to enjoy your car but to compare it to the ugly motherf****r that is the Honda type R is beyond comprehension, smack wrist for you.
By the way so what do you do Doctor, Dentist, Psychiatrist?

I'll go for dentistry. Shouldn't that be bartering or did you physically abuse him
I reckon you could easily be a patient of mine ;)

Dearest Gizzy and Dear p3asa,
None of your guesses.
Sorry p3asa I left the 'R' out as I was thinking of my Type R!
p3asa you are so rude to think on those wicked lines.
You are right Gizzy about the Type R. But I still loved it somehow even though I got battered to death. Sometimes a hard ride is a good find!
Ex-wife: Consultant Psychiatrist.
Me: Consultant Clinical Scientist in Otology (hearing).
Now you can imagine why we had to divorce.
Going to drive her Merc today but not her. Too tired!

I really cannot understand why people are so horrible. You must have been so upset. Really feel for you. I hope the barsteward has a headache for the rest of his life unless he pays up and apologises!

Having it washed tomorrow at 10.30 am at the dealership with my own supply of Toughseal shampoo etc. for £10.
Really worried that it will end up with swirl marks ( ).
I have told them I am going to supervise the waterworks!

Wash it yourself.
You may actually enjoy it (think of it as bonding) and then you know he/she has been looked after properly.
Wolfie gets a good wash and polish every week whether he needs it or not.

Hope You love Wolfgang as much as I love Wolfie.
Wolgang is a brilliant name for a GTI.

very nice!!

Thanks lads.
Having a mini day mare getting rid of watermarks after the crap garage job, though no swirl marks. The cleaner was Polish and did not speak a word of English or understand the language. Really helpful situation! Had to develop new versions of sign language which I am sure looked very strange and odd to the people around. Does it bother me?
Now, I am doing one panel at a time with Nano 8 waterless car wash and polish. It is going to take me all bloody day! Is this what you call bonding? Wolfgang is loving it, I suppose!
PS: Discovered my first small stone chip  on the rear bumper around the numberplate housing. Immediately touched-up. Will build it up later and then cut and polish it. Should be ok., I hope.

They are really rather fetching, I must admit.

if white wasn't a colour that was available, red would have probably been my choice
i've seen a couple of red GTIs in the showroom and they look great
the red doesn't come out quite as well in the photos, but it's probably to do with the camera

It was a toss up between Red and White for me.
A chose Red as it shows less dirt and does not require too much attention.
I am pretty lazy at washing cars and also because every time I gat a car washed I find that there is a new scratch or paint chip!
What I am going to do now is to get the rear diffuser sprayed in the Gunmetal Grey of the front spoiler. I will also get the two side skirts done at the same time. I will be ordering new ones of these parts which are not expensive.
I am waiting for a call from the bodyshop tomorrow.
Hope they can oblige. I think it will enhance the overall look.

I am going to have the rear diffuser and the 2 sill trims sprayed to look exactly like the Gunmetal Grey on the front spoiler. I think it will look quite fetching, enhance the look of the car and enable it to look even more upmarket.
