Title: front suspension problem

Hi to all you guru's out there!  8)
I have this problem, I have just changed the suspension on my wifes 97 gti, the rear shocks were gone so she bought a complete set of lowered springs and uprated shocks, now i have fitted them but, the front strut top has a lot of play in them, with the car jacked up, i can lift the wheel up about 5-10 mm, but everything is tightened down properly,now this shouldnt be like this! so would packing it  with a few washers be accecptable or is there somthing else i should do?

did you fit the bump stops ????

are the bump stops the rubbery/foamy type thingys that are on the suspension shaft underneath the gator/cover??
I put everything that was on the original suspension onto the new suspension in excactly the same order it came off.

yes mate they are, not really up on suspension i got a mate who hasa garage to ower mine for me, maybe worth taking it to a garagr matey or see if any one else can help or try posting same problem in the garage
