Title: Service Indicator come on early
Post by: ccaasjf on 08 April 2010, 18:57
Hiya,

Yesterday my service indicator came on saying 19 days or 5000 miles to a service, the car is 2.5 years old and has done 26k miles. I checked the log book and the inspection service (3yrs) is due in Sep or 35k miles.

After ringing my local swlondon dealer i was told the service indicator sometimes comes on early if driven in a city due to filters getting clogged up.

Previously I had a brake fluid change at 2 years old and 1st service after 1st year and 15k miles.

Anyone else have any experience of why it would come on early?

Regards
Simon

Are you on time and distance or 'long life' servicing?

Long life is only long life if you do a lot of gentle motorway miles.  It usually works out worse than time and distance if you do a lot of stop start / city type driving.

If it is long life, its probably right.  Best to change to time and distance servicing - better for GTI's regardless of the type of driving you do, but use the longlife oil.  Plenty threads on this if you search ...
