Title: ABF vacuum hose into the bulkhead
Post by: aminorthreat1 on 07 April 2010, 20:35
right so today i've been inspecting the vacuum hoses which run from the back of the inlet manifold into the bulkhead, there all pretty decayed. one which was particularly bad was the one that runs into the bulkhead between the heater pipes. i gave it a little tug and felt a snap. so i removed the foam insulation between the pipes and the white connector the pipe attatches to has snapped off. im guessing this dissapears somewhere into the heater matrix. whats the easiest way to go about getting to it??
cheers

plus, how do i get at the one that runs into the ECU for the MAP sensor?

What year is your car?

The one to the ecu is accessed by removing the plastic trim at the bottom of the windscreen (passenger side)

The one you have snapped off is for the auto heater controls.

its easy to replace the vacuum pipe.
done mine a week ago .

well yeah its just gettin at the bit the vacuum hose attatches too inside the bulkhead thats snapped off thats the problem.

i got a split pin opened it up and joined to two pieces together and
pulled it though to bulkhead.

that soundfs like the connection for the a/c system? if it was me, I'd have the dash undertray off and see if you can spot the other end of the vacuum tube. then re-route it thru one of the spare holes in the bulkhead :)

spot on, cheers! i'll give that a go. right, another question... out of the two hoses at the back which should go to the MAP sensor on the ECU

coz i'm sure i read somewhere that it should be the one on the back of the manifold closest to the throttle body. however this one goes off to a small blue valve and the other hose, at the back which connects to the larger black pipe, runs to the ECU.

The one at the back of the manifold above the VW sign goes to the ecu.

The other one is usually for the aircon

right cheers, that would explain why its not pulling at all then. good job i came to replace them hoses, otherwise i'd be scratching my head for even longer!!

Resurrecting this post.

I was doing my routine vac hose inspection and thought about renewing my hoses.

Anyway, I realized that the hose on the back of the manifold goes to a T-piece behind the coolant reservoir presume for air con or something.

Then the hose from the brake servo/cylinder goes to the ecu.

I've left them as is for now, but the hoses have not been touched for several years. Can anyone reconfirm please, that the hose on the rear of the manifold next to idle switch goes the to ecu? I'll then try swapping around to see if it makes any difference.

depends on the age of the car, the early abf have the ecu connection to the brake servo, the later ones run to the inlet

I've got 97 P-plate, which I thought was late mk3. I'm not sure how much difference it makes, as the brake servo is still connected to the back of the manifold.

Red hose - from brake servo to ecu, also connected to Green hose into right rear of manifold.
Blue hose - goes to T-piece and splits off in two directions but not the ecu.

blue hose deffo should be to ecu, what's prob happened is one or both have been off and whoever did it mixed them up. it doesn't really matter as long as there arnt any leaks, but i would put ecu to inlet anyway.  the other pipe will be for aircon if fitted, 1 goes to bulkhead the other to the vacuum reservoir
