Title: A stressful day....
Post by: T_J_G on 07 April 2010, 19:50
Wanted to fit my 312mm front brakes and new rear discs and pads today. But the 312mm carriers haven't turned up so decided to just sort the rears for now. It seems the carriers are lost in transit somewhere...

What a pig of a job, the new pads didn't come with these little metal clips that on one side kept falling off and made it near IMPOSSIBLE to fit the pads in. Took about 5 hours to do the whole job with the other side taking about 30 minutes. It was chucking it down all day and very wet.

Meanwhile I tried to find my leak, the bonnet release grommit was fine so reinstalled it and used a lot of silicone so around it so I can rule that out.

Fitted my new wipers while I was at it, a great improvement. So quiet and efficient. Happy days!

Old discs  :lipsrsealed:

And I'm left with a car that won't rev below 1300 RPM.... :undecided:

It sits steady at 1300 an takes a while to come back down if you rev it. I'll investigate firther in the morning. I've only just dried off.

Hopefully carriers will be here tomorow. Yeah the old discs were ready to be binned.

Throttle body hasn't been touched. I only fiddled with the air box yesterday.

Just went out, unplugged maf and plugged it back in, idle properly until I revved it. It then hunted for a while a sat at 1300 RPM again. Maybe time to get a maf tomorrow.

None at all just rescanned it. It's either MAF or throttle body. Keep going in limp mode too.

I'll reset the TB tomo using VAGCOM and may buy a new MAF

Um what about the lambda sensor as this controls idle reason for when you start up your car it isles high and the lambda sensor brings it down doesn't throw up a fault code either  from what your saying that's all it could be, everyone jumps for a new MAF when was the last time u cleaned it? If I had to buy a new maf everytime my old golf got lumpy I would b bankrupt, eBay MAF cleaner it's in a blue bottle from Cardiff enough for at least 50 cleans and works everytime, never failed to cure my lumpy idle and remove fault code from vag com all this for £8 Inc delivery. It's not hard to clean you just spray it dnt touch poke rub just spray and let dry SIMPLES
