Title: advise for a possible purchase
Post by: RIPP3Y on 06 April 2010, 23:18
Hi all, had my eyes on a Mk1 golf gls or glx, although not sure if there is such a thing as glx.
Anyhow,  X reg,  looks to have black stripping near the bottom of the doors, it is totaly original, red in color, and i clocked it about 2yrs ago and it hasnt moved since i seen it.  Might well have been sat there for a few years as moss is visble around the tyres, and they are all still inflated.
Wot would you offer as a runner?
Wot would you offer as a non-runner?
I will walk away if it`s a rust bucket, but wots its worth if its generaly sound?
I`m not one for ripping off the elderly to fill my own pockets, and after recently sell my Mk1 cabby, i have an urge to replace it with a tin top.
Any advice will be taken with many thanks
Cheers guys`n gals

I think there was a glx. To be honest, even if it was a runner I don't think it would be worth that much anyway. None runner I think it's worth not much more than scrap as it could need loads of work to get it through an MOT or it might not even be salvageable (sp?). For a runner, I'd say it's worth a couple of 100 quid tops but again, depends on the overall condition. If it was generally sound, no rust, decent engine and decent interior, then it could be worth up to 1k if the right buyer came along, but realistically around 600 - 700........or stick it on Edition38 and watch them all cream their pants and say it's worth a million squillion, but nobody will actually buy it for that.

hope you can, just had a thought, if whoever owns it has left it to rot then thats surly a sign they dont care, you might be doing them a favour and get it for naff all and an extra bonus for you if its not in too bad a shape.

At that age its more than likley a 1.3 GLS.
Most GX 1.5's were Y or A reg to clear the stock of engines and were quite well speced.
