I've had the same problems mate, Adam says he has his working on windows 7 so I'm trying one last time else I'm getting a handheld scanner.

Just tried re-installing mine and the same as you mate. Folowed the step by step guide that came on the disk with the drivers and now the program won't even open. 409.1 is what I got. Is that the right one?

thats the one yep 409.1

Double check that you've installed 409.1s NOT 409.1us - the S stands for serial (which the ebay cables are, despite them using a USB connector they have serial->USB converter in the ODB2 connector) and the US stands for USB, which only the real Ross Tech cables will work with.

That wouldn't stop the program from opening tho, would it?

I found on 1 of my laptops installing / uninstalling VAG COM and drivers a bit stopped it from opening.
Uninstall that version, and reinstall to a different location.
-
i just looked in my programs part for install/uninstall and no vagcom listed
-
Just delete it
-
have you tried running it in compatability mode, also if your running a version that your not supposed to you have to enable administrator permissions to the batch file
