Dont buy a mk4 :lipsrsealed:

dont listen to him, he's just a bitter old mk4 owner and has realised he made a mistake gettin rid.
The 1.8T is a good platform and good power can be made from good money
The best start is to buy a mk4 1.8T fitted with a K03s turbo, so this normally means buying a AUM engine code model.
From a good Milltek system, larger downpipe and sports cat, panel filter, 007p re-circ valve, Forge TIP and remap you can expect power around the 220bhp mark on a good engine. This will set you back around £1000 which for an 70-80bhp gain is fairly good.

fairly good? sounds like quite a bargin really. just had a kid whos now 5 months so need something practical ish but not going to bore my bollocks off!!!

buy an older aug engined one say w reg better engine and 200bhp is yours for £200.

AGU *
Mental 300bhp + power is where money gets 1.5K plus just in parts(on a bargain streak). You could be upto 4,5,6k with labour ect..
K03s is the straight upgrade, Im selling my full K03s setup if in anyway you need soon. Going K04 route which is as fitted on Audi TT 225's, little bit trickier but no so bad, BHP more 265-280 area i guess.

Yeh in all seriousness, the 1.8T is a good car, despite how much it may cost you
AGU FTW

does anyone have any surgestions for the best dump valve to give off that spine tingling hiss on power drop. i think it needs to be a re circulating valve aswell as blow off valve???? :undecided:

I really would not get a dump valve being a parent if I was you. I had a modded 200sx (already modded when I bought it) which came with a dump valve, I felt like such a cock when it went off with my son in the back so I sold it.

im 22 and he only 5 months so doesnt bother me that much, i only really take him anywhere at weekends cos he's asleep when i get in from work most nites

That still wont stop from looking like a bum lover but in the world of modding its everyone to their own.
Take a good read of that thread I posted as the dump valve can cause problems as the 1.8T system isnt really meant to have one on it.
