Title: Water leak

My golf has turnt out to be a real project that I wasnt expecting but i've thrown too much money at it to stop now lol. Basically my mk2 gti dosnt move a lot once a week to keep it going tbh. After all that rain from the past weeks thers a lovely puddle behind the passenger seat, the passenger footwell is also wet. no were else is wet.
Any places to check first? any on else had a similar problem?
Any help will be appreciated

If its got a sunroof then check the drainage holes arnt blocked as they fill up with dirt and get blocked.

check the door rubber it might be perished and also check the drainage holes in the door. gromits also perhaps.

Check under the plastic scuttle tray under the bonnet, back of engine nearest the windscreen, whip that off and in both wings there are drainage holes about size of a 50 pence piece,give then a good poke with a long screw driver then pour some water down and check to see they are draining out under  both wings, thats one thing less to check then, they sometimes get bunged up and start sending water into the footwells :wink:

Check the coolant level in the Expansion Tank... It could your heater Matrix...

The other one I have read about is around the rear lights.... and I know of one Mk2 that had water leaking in on the rear seams just above the lights, after it had been in a rear end shunt and had some very poor body work done...

Front door membranes are a favourite for leaking too mate, normally traceable by find wet on the bottoms of the door cards.

pull plastic cover off scuttle tray pour some water down windscreen and see if water is dripping down the middle of the heater blower air vent/leaf guard there is a drain hole just above and left of it and the water on mine was running back and dripping in also i have a leak from the passengers side of the windscreen
