I have tried several times and failed, but am gonna try again...
Is it possible to graft a instant fuel consumption set of clocks (posh sirocco), which I think are motometer into a 8k mk2 16v VDO set? Basicly I want an 8K rev counter and an instant fuel consumption guage. I am not too worried about keeping the 160mph speedo, as the only time a MK1 will get there is with a rocket welded to it, but a 140mph set of clocks would be good, as its been clocked at 135mph (with the 1600 lump{very tweaked}).
1) Do the VDO and MOTOMETER clocks share the same plugs, or did VW make different wiring looms for the different clocks. (pre '90 two plug clocks)
2) Are VDO and MOTOMETER clocks parts interchangeable?
3) Any one have a late MK1 loom kicking about?
4) Do I need to get out more?

you need to get out more mate :grin:
i dont think any mk2 dial will fit into mk1 assembly as they are slightly bigger, but dont all gti clocks have mfa that show fuel consumption? :undecided:
why not fit mk2 clocks?
iirc the fuel consumption read out is usually way out from what you actually use and personally i take no notice of mfa fuel readings
there's a few threads about of fitting mk2 clocks into mk1 including going from 2plug to later type single plug mk2 clocks :wink:

I was going to try to merge all the above into MK2 clocks, just there are so many variants... anyway, I spent a day with the wiring loom from my MK1, a Sirocco MK2 and a MK2 16v, now my head really hurts, so a new post...

there are pre-90 clocks with 2 plugs and post-90 clocks with 1 plug. scirocco clocks are identical to pre-90 mk2 clocks wiring wise. some vdo/motormeter bits swap over :)
to wire up pre-90 mk2 clocks, you need this:

At this rate, I'll be trying to employ you!!!
Poxy weather keeps me from doing anything serious to the car, so I've been sat in the shed with two looms, the sirocco one from you (rubjonny) and the mk2 valve.
There are only two differences that I can see on the clock loom side of things.
On the black connector, the 16v loom has an additonal yellow wire, that after tracing it, goes to the head unit power din plug, then only thing that I can think of is that it's for adjusting the volume of the radio automaticly as you go faster, but did they even have this back in 1989?
On the white connector there is an additonal red/white wire on the sirocco loom. On the clock loom, this connects to the wire next to it, which is a black/purple.
The white/red wire runs to the fuse box, ending in a 2 pin (male) plug, the second wire is a white/blue, that comes from the same place.
I am assuming that the yellow wire doesn't need to be worried about, but I have no idea about the others. I would post a picture, but for some reason, my computer won't reconise that my phone has a camera?!?!

the yellow wire is indeed speed sensitive volume control for the radio, but it was also used for cruise control, abs etc.
wht/red and black/blue sound like the outside temp sensor wires, got any pics?

I'll get some pics on here as soon as I can figure it out.
Project is on hold at the moment, snapped the handle bar off my Triumph the other day, with out dropping it :huh:, a joint had fractured due to metal fatigue :shocked:

I have, a 1999 Daytona 955i (a Red one)
Where the bit that holds the bar on to the bit that clamps the slider... it is held on by a pin. The hole the pin goes through has cracked and broken?!?!?! :shocked:
Oh and it's the LEFT one.
If you have one, please let me know how much?

with mine the pin is missing that slots into the bottom of the yoke to position the bar but the clamp bit and bolt are fine the actual bar is very slightly bent but useable send me your address and can post tuesday, price of postage will do mate. :wink:
just dug it out and clamp bolt is missing but you can use yours
