Post by: stevengeelan on 04 April 2010, 15:17
Got a reminder for my cambelt to be replaced the other day.

How much can I expect to pay for this?

It all depends on where you get it done? It can be from £300 to 600 quid, make sure you get water pump done too. Shop around some on here might have one of those voucher's ??

hey im lucky as im a mechanic myself not at a vw dealer but took me about 3 hours to do the belt and water pump vw mechanic should wap it out 3 hours no problems as they will work on them all the time.  so labour cost will depend on how much they charge hourly and i got the belt and pump for 110+ vat but the rrp price on the invoice came to 170 + vat so depends on the dealer again.

Ive just had mine done 800miles or so ago! £410 (without w/pump) is the cheapest qoute i could get from a VW dealer

So i ended up getting it done with Vag-tech in MK, an independent vag specialist for £350, that included w/pump, tensioners, and coolant change!

Ring around afew places, and if you are not to concerned about a Stealer stamp in your book you will get it done for alot less than with your local Audi

Phoned Midland VW the other day for a quote and for the belt, tensioner, and water pump was told approx £360
So got to save a few pennies and will do it in a month or so.

Is that Listers Stratford, Western Road in Stratford? (link below) I need the cambelt doing on mine and this is local for me. Is the £249 a special offer and does that include the water pump?

How do you rate VAG tech? What was the service like?

Sorry stafford audi mate.  Its about an hr from me but worth it for the price.  They advertise on ebay of all places.  View their shop it has all their servicing prices.  http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380075065026&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Veedubs

Vag-tech in lieghton buzzard, near MK are a brilliant bunch of guys, very knowledgable, friendly and very reasonable price wise!

Have used them twice now for mods and servicing etc.

They specialise in HGA turbo conversions on R32's TTs and the like.

They also have an insane courtesy car! a little polo  lol

Phoned my local VW (Advantage Volkswagen, Stirling) today and have been quoted a price of £400.35.

I never asked if this included the water pump (but judging by marty341's price, it wont) will call back tomorrow to find out.

I have a mate thats a mechanic, I might ask him to do it, although I would miss out on the stamp. Do you think it is worth paying the extra, going to a VW dealer and getting the stamp, for when the time comes to sell the car?

I queried this at the weekend at my local VW dealer and was quoted £280 for a cambelt replacement with all the parts and tensioners.  Asked about doing the water pump at the same time and was told there was no labour, just the cost of the part, which is about £30.  So £310 I thought wasn't too bad.
