I'm not interested in VW's offering as they only serve to protect the plastic sill cover - seems a bit daft to me, but anyway... what I am looking for is some kind of trim/plate to put in the red box. Can anyone advise, please?

Hello my dear French friend!
Mine is located in 'your' lovely red box and are from VW.
Get the VW 'Accessories Brochure'.

Merci, am1w  Can you post some pix? I can't find them in the French accessory catalogue and the UK site doesn't give you PDF brochures. £160 seems a bit steep, but maybe they are really bonne qualité?

Voila

try a search on there for part numbers

5k4 071 310
5k4 071 310 A
You can also get the R style ones from the R-line cataogue that fit there
There has been at least 2 threads on there were i have posted photos of most VWs own options including the ones fittd to the mk5.

Cheers, everyone. As usual this forum provides the answer to my every query within half an hour :nerd: That second set from your scan, Neil, is what I'm after, so thanks for that. However, £100 seems really expensive for what look like bits of thick Gaffer tape. Can anyone confirm the quality?
Does anyone have any 'real' photos, i.e. not ones from accessory brochures?
-
They are justlike a stick on vynle.

Thanks, Snoopy. Good pix, but not of the model I want. I'd like the boring black ones, second down in Neil's scan.
I managed to find a PDF file in English, if anyone is interested: http://www.volkswagen-zubehoer.de/fileadmin/pdf/prospekte/englisch/zubehoer/L41774_Golf_VI_ZP%20englisch%20081208.pdf (http://www.volkswagen-zubehoer.de/fileadmin/pdf/prospekte/englisch/zubehoer/L41774_Golf_VI_ZP%20englisch%20081208.pdf)

I quite like the R line ones
-
Yes, they look nice, but I want ones that actually protect my sills
-
Does Gulfstream make any GTI styled ones?
-
Yup.
I made some on order for the MKIV and a special GT order for the MKV,which I still have as the person dropped out. :undecided:
-
Gulf, do you have some pics of the GTI ones you have for the mk6 ?

FroGti, I have those on mine [the second ones down on the catalogue page] and can confirm that they are good quality, and look exactly as they do on the brochure pic. [Price includes fitting]
Haven't taken any pics of the ones on mine.

Frog, just remember if you stick anything in that area make sure the paintwork is cleaned but not waxed otherwise it might not stick as well. Most of these kits come with alcohol/solvent rubbing solution to prep the area.

Thanks again for all your helpful feedback, guys  I'd be interested in seeing those custom made ones, Gulfstream. Do they have a brushed steel finish? I don't need any lettering or logos on mine, as I have the GTI seat inserts and any more would start to look OTT. I will remember to clean with alcohol, Gossa. Rick, any chance of a close-up shot of yours?
EDIT: I have just stuck a couple of strips of 3" wide Sellotape along the front sills. Not particularly sexy perhaps, but it's practically invisible, free, renewable and would appear to do what I want.

Do you mean the sill protectors Kev?

Yes they would be a brushed finish to match the interior, tho I,ve never made any for the MK6.I agree with your point on plain would be better.I,ll do some next week and post pictures on here..

VWKEV.. I thought the GTI ones were standard,,They are on the MK5... :undecided:

That would be great. I would definitely be interested. There are no kick plates at all as standard on the Mk6, so any protection would be nice (my temporary Sellotape solution won't hold out for very long).
Look forward to your update, Gulfstream

Definately not as standard. If they are I didnt get mine.

Thanks, Rick. They do look very high quality. Do they come pre-bent, as it were, or are they like big flat strips? Are they awkward to install, i.e. do you need to remove the rubber door seals, etc?
I'll see what Gulfstream's aluminium plates are like and then decide.
-
That just looks like thick vynle to me. You could goto a graphics place and get them to make/fit some of them for a fraction of what VW charge.
-
RickS.
Sorry, but they really look quite cheap and horrid.

 am1w. The whole point of these is to prevent the sills getting scratched, the only time you can see them is when a door is open. They don't look as good as some of the ones posted agreed, but most of those are styling accessories rather than protectors. I don't agree that they look cheap and horrid. [They weren't cheap either at £110!] Wouldn't mind the MK5 ones with GTI on them instead though.
-
I don't think they look cheap and horrid either. They are actually quite subtle against the paintwork colour you have. A bit on the pricey side for me however
-
Agreed. Compared to the sexy R Line brushed aluminium ones, they're pretty dull, but that's why I like them. I want to protect the paintwork on my sills from the inevitable scuffs they receive (thanks, kids...). Yes, they're very expensive for what is basically 4 strips of thick vinyl, but I wouldn't say they look cheap & nasty, especially on grey.
-
Hey all.
I,ve enclosed a pic of my MK5 and a rough sketch of the area I,m hoping to cover. Can someone go lookie at their MK6 and confirm they are the same.. It looks different to the other pics.
Cheers
Gulf

Hey Gulf - did you ever complete the kick plates? My sills are getting a bit beaten and I'd like to sort something out.
The ones from VW look like they would work, but if you have somethng as good are your foot rests, I'd love those instead!

These look nicer but don't offer as much protection as a lot of my scratches are on the edge of the first "bend"
