Title: Golf GTI TDI MK4 150 BHP 2002 - Aux Pulley Tensioner

Hi all,

Recently bought a 2002 GTI TDI 150, engine has been fully rebuilt due to a camshaft failure at about 91k miles.

I now have a squeaking which I think is coming from the aux belt tensioner (has had new cambelt, kit and aux belts so should not be these), I think from the few threads this is a common fault mainly noticed when car is on full steering lock. Mine however is doing it all the time at idle and does not seem to get worse on full lock.

Few questions,
I will get this done however I need to use the car for a few days over Easter as everything is closed and I cant buy a replacement. If it does go whilst using it will it damage anything ?
Finally how hard are they to replace ? From what I have found it appears you just wind a bolt in to reduce the pressure and then it can be unbolted and replaced, anyone else done this job ?

could be the alternator pulley has seized

Ah could well be, hard to fix or not too difficult ?

How can I make sure is def the alternator ?

Edit : In fact thinking about it I will use a metal bar on the alternator and the Tensioner and listen at the other end to work out which one it is ;)
