Post by: Overseer on 18 November 2004, 14:51
this has happened to me twice in the last couple months... anyone have any ideas what it could be?

Make sure your battery terminals are tight mate, may be loosing the connection slighty when the engine is turning over

I would also take off all connections to the starter motor, give them a good beasting with a wire brush, put them all back on ( in the right place? ::) ) and cover it all with vaseline.

When you start the car you are placing a huge load on the starting circuit and its pulling loads of current.? If you have a poor (for poor read resistive) connection there will be power lost in that connection.? As it needs this power to start it has to draw extra current to turn the engine over so takes it from anything else that might be on, like the clock in this case.? This causes an intermittant power loss to the clock and it resets itself.

Just a guess, at worst you'll have excellent connections for the coming winter months.

Hi there,

I have exactly the same problem. Sometimes theclock and MPG info rests but it's generally ok. Did you get to the bottom of the problem? Any help or guidance you can give would be great as it's doing it once a week or so and doing my head in !!!

Thanks,

JPM777

God I thought wotto was back for a minute! until I realise how old this thread was!

As said above its probably to do with the battery connections or maybe the main earth strap and its chassis connection.
