just wondering i have a mk2 golf and want to paint the dash, centre console etc black. does anyone no how to prep for it or have a step by step what to do please?

do you mean step by step to remove or to paint it?
Painting is easy if you're using specialit paints, thoroughly clean the area you're looking at 20 years of grot thats engrained itself, much easier with dash out. Foliatec or other nonstatic type stuff I've found works, not dash cleaner as this is designed to make it look nice and waxes surface. You can also finely sand it to provide a key (don't overdo it though)
Use plastic engraining paint, you need stuff designed to impregnate the plastic so go for something like foliatec or motor factors own brand stuff - test a small out of sight place first, leave it a few days and check if paint has gone on and doesn't bubble, marble, crackle or flake. If alls good paint up with lots of thin dusty coats. Once done you can spray sealer on or leave for a matter finish.

What colour is your dash presently?
Brown or Blue you could sell and use the funds for other bits
Would it not make more sense to simply replace your dash with a black one as they come in that colour standard?
Plus if it's a brown dash let me know as I'm looking for one

yeah just a guide to spray it like prep and all. would you recommend spraying it?

In a word no, I wouldn't bother.
But if you must, then clean it thoroughly, degrease, plastic prime and then paint with suitable flexible paint.
Worth mentioning that you'd be better doing it in matt as gloss on a dashboard+sun=fail.
Have you considered getting it flocked?
Far more hard wearing and there's someone on here that does it for good price iirc.
