strange one but today i finally did the thermostat on the golf, was going to do the temp sender just for the sake of it but i got the green plug but need a blue one (fail)
anyway left the temp sender alone and topped the car back up with coolant and started it (coolant level light came on and beeped and flashed) and i let it warm up until the fans came on always topping the resivior up
left it for 4 hours whilst i wired in my new sub + amp (took me 5 mins the get the cable through the firewall into the cabin and down the side of the car, yay me!) then started it again and the coolant/temp level light flashed back up and beeped again, checked the coolant level and it was fine (between min/max)
any ideas as to why its doing this now? gauge does run up to 90 and sits there no problems

The level sensor will probably have picked up some dirt/sludge. Take the car for a drive and just ensure the temp gauge sits at 90 degrees. Then when you come back check the coolant level to ensure all air has been circulated out the system. If the level light is still on the either unplug it from the header bottle and give it a clean but but careful with it.

I had this 2 weeks ago, thought it was the coolant bottle pins.....no longer get it....cost me a new water pump though!
