Title: My Mk5 (£1800) Gti Project
Post by: IBD4vid on 02 April 2010, 14:01
Hey all i own a Mk5 Golf Fsi-S

Lets start the story with the price of the car, i payed £1800 for a 2004 plated golf.
Why so cheap you ask? Well there was some history with the car and it had police markers, And some minor body damage. But driverable and repairable. The best thing about it was that it was unrecorded.

When i bought the car it came with
* Mint condition GTI seats
* Gti Bumper (fogs etc)
* Gti lights and converstion
* Gti rear bumper

So after a few months of owning the car i have now come to the point where i will start making repairs and adding a few bits to make a GTi rep.

I will post some pictures up of what the car looks like now and the progress will go from there :)

Also i am waiting on a few parts that will hopefully be delivered tomorrow:) thanks to a person on here
* New Gti Headlight (As Mine Has A Little Crack)
* 4 x Door Strips
* 2 x Mirrors ( My Driverside snapped off the metal so at the mo its held on with cable tie, and passengers side the indicatorglass is broken)
* Gti Front Grill
* Gti Mats

and a few other parts

Got to wonder what is the matter with it that you cannot see though. If it has police markers, do you know what for?
Could look pretty good though with some TLC.

haha, had that problem in past.
 Trust me its no fun everytime u pass an ANPR camera and your car lights up for Drug offences or a failing to stop.

ANPR is everywhere now. Soon as I get caught on the old green in myn the number plates gotta change :S

just out of curiosity how much do u think my golf is worth?
right first of all mot sep 2010 tax till end sep 2010 right no markers on the car (ie police markers) and even tho it does have slight damage the car is HPI clear. The inside is very clean with gti seats and i've also just put new front and back brakes. just over 100k but full service history.
What Would You Pay For This?

and everything the same except the car fully repaired

What Would You Pay?

Would probably be looking to pay between £4500-£5000.

Although you probably could get a bit more!

Parkers is very good for giving guide prices! nice car though, you got a great deal :smiley:

Hey everyone just a quic update as its been a while :)

the front grill is now black like the gti is supposed to be :)
i've also managed to get a door strip for the passengers front door so only need the rear door one
and i've been working on the body damage of the car and almost finished all the damage :)

after i have done all the body repairs i'm thinking of a respray. Maybe black?

That'll set you back a lot. I'd stick with it as it is personally

Post by: Upperoilcan on 14 July 2010, 11:13
Why bother with a respray ? after all your trying to make the car look like a GTI so surely a new set of wheels would be money well spent cos at the moment the car aint getting away with it on the 15" rims you have...........
Title: Re: My Mk5 (£1800) Gti Project
Post by: IBD4vid on 14 July 2010, 13:19
ive already got a set of GTI rims (MINT) they came with the car they was removed due to 2 tyres needing changing.

As for the respray my mate owns a garage and he said he would respray the whole car providing i get paint etc for £80. Only reason for respray is i've had to filler a few bits and when i bought the car it had a scratch from front to back and bonnet/wing needs respray anyway. so i thought i might aswell do the whole car?

what u think?

I'd get it sprayed but keep it the same colour. THen the door shuts and engine bay etc will all match and it'll look much much better.

Im after a GTI. Could you let me know where you are..... so i can stay well clear. If a HPI check wont pick up anything are you going to be honest when it comes to selling?

No offence intended. Earlier you were very keen to ask for value of your finished car but that doesnt suggest you are selling soon. However my post never suggested this either i mearly meant that some time in the near or distant future when you come to sell. You also seemed very happy the fact that the car was not recorded as stolen/dameged or whatever it was.

Oh and a friendly tip the number of posts someone has means diddly squat. I may not be a post whore but you have know idea of what i have owned or driven or my experience.

Post by: IBD4vid on 15 July 2010, 21:06
fair enough. was only asking what the value was after repairs out of curiosity. just like i was about the seats.
:) i put pictures up and u could c body damage i was just saying the damage was unrecored as people might of asked :)

anyway it was a cheap car so no plans on sellling soon  :smiley:

The areas which have been filled don't look great, are you going to sand them down and improve them before it goes for paint?

Cost-wise, what do you think it will stand you at once it's all done? Looks like you've still got a way to go before you've got a decent replica.

Personally, the idea of a car which looks like a 1.4 S but has GTI running gear is far more interesting.  :wink:

Post by: IBD4vid on 27 July 2010, 12:52
yeah will be sanding everythin down before full respray what ive done so far is just a little sample :)
mines a 1.6s but came with the gti wheels seats xenon lighs etc etc

Sure enough the car is cheap, but i would be concerned about 1 thing and 1 thing only...

Although the car may look like a GTI when its finished (based on your plans, i'm sure you'll do a good job), are you not concerned that it wont go like a GTI?

What happens when you're on a B-road late at night and fancy giving it some beans? No Turbo whistle? Nowhere near as much power? No sculpted steering wheel to get a good grip of? Or different dials to look at? (Unless of course you're planning to change these too)

Personally, the idea of a car which looks like a 1.4 S but has GTI running gear is far more interesting.  :wink:

+1

I have a mate who bought a BMW M5 and put a 520d badge on the back - Much better way to do it, especially when theres a screaming V10 upfront!
