Title: mk 3 golf misfireing on cylinder 4
Post by: moffatt1990 on 01 April 2010, 14:37
my mk3 golf 1.8 has started to misfire slightly i pulled off the ht leads indevidualy and noticed when pulling number 4 off (closest to distrabuter cap) that there is no change to te way the engin runs wen i checked the plug it is sparking so i dont think it is the distrabuter cap

it has recently had new plugs and new fule filter

Before you spend any money you could swap lead 4 with 3 to see if the problem moves... if 3 starts missing then you know for sure its the lead.

Are you losing water from the cooling system?

If not then it's condensation.

If you are then it's likely headgasket fail.

Provided they're roughly the same across the pots it'll be fine.  If one's down it's time to scrap another Golf3

sounds like headgasket !!! not a bad job to do.get the compression checked! should be over 140 ish,you will see if one is down.does it use water?oil level high??or burns it???start with these.
