Title: Burst hose below inlet manifold.
Post by: Niloc on 31 March 2010, 22:01
I have just had my 1.8T remapped and the mechanic said
there was a very small hole in the hose below the inlet manifold.
After testing the car he said It only made 195 horses,
and would have got 200 but for the hose.
Anyone had to change this hose and any thoughts appreciated. :-)

+1 also if its an aum engine code it could be one of three hoses from under the inlet

Same issue with mine when i got it mapped last week - mine's an AUM engine code and its my PCV system that is leaking. I made 190bhp but my MAF readings were also low and its never had a new one so its down on power due to a combination of these things. I'm gonna sack it all off and fit a catch can as per the how to on here somewhere.

Ah cheers Northeast, that's the one! I have decided i'm going with the £30 catch can off ebay with 15mm ports. I'm going to run 15mm piping from the can and use a reducer at the connection points to the rocker cover, oil filter housing and hockey puck.

I will be taking pics this time, and i still need to post one up of my boost gauge  :embarassed:

Sorry not sure what engine code is, its a 2003 1.8 T, and again not sure what remap it is. It was done by Star performance, a VW specialist, he took it from 150 to supposedly 201Bhp and 206 torque.
Also since I got it back there is a very small flat spot when the car is a t low revs, just when you expect the turbo to spin up, there is sometimes a slight pull back before it kicks in, nothing that would bother you, well it bothers me, could this be related to this pin prick hole in the hose I mentioned previously.

Also got Black diamond grooved discs and pads all round, not had much time to try them but when I had my first blast the fade was shocking, they were really cooking though from extreme braking, expected a bit more for the price though, maybe they will bed in and be better though Im not convinced.

cheers for the input

CK
