Hi!
Any Of You Vagcom/VCDS Wizz Kids Know if it's possible to recode Electric Folding Mirrors On MKVI Golf So they automatically fold in and out when ignition is switched ONorOFF, Rather than use the door mounted switch, Keep forgetting to fold them in. Would be a usefull mod for Me.
I have access to VCDS so that not a problem. Accurate instructions If Poss please.

That is no good if you are 'parked' with engine switched off whilst kerb crawling!

If you forget to fold them in while getting out the car, you might forget you have parked close to a pebble-dashed wall and unlock the car only to see your nice shiny wing mirrors scrape along the pebbles
Seriously though, the automatic in and out with locking / unlocking the car would be a good idea only if it also had an override switch. I don't know why they didn't include that on the wing mirror switch.
To answer your question, its been asked many a time, not sure if on here or other VW forum and as far as I know can't be done!

I'd be interested in hard wiring them into the locking mechanism, so that they fold closed when the doors are locked.
Then I thought a bit more, and the doors lock when I go above 15mph - so the mirrors would fold shut!
There must be an easy way of achieving this?!

How did you get the doors to lock above 15 mph?
I have not noticed this on mine.

Hold down the DOWN button on your wiper stalk for a few seconds when you're sitting still. Go into the settings menu and its somewhere in there. I can't really remember, and its snowing outside so I can't be bothered checking!!

Thanks alot.
Really very useful to get this to happen.
Will try to set this up tomorrow.
It's as involved as setting up a pc.
Imagine if it all goes wrong!

Just make sure you also check the box to make them open again when you remove the key from the ignition!!

This would be useless in a garage, they fold in once you are in and fold out on the way out and get torn off by the garage door entrance. Doh!!!

Ford stopped this on the new Fiesta I'm told, I think its a great idea as My fiesta which I sold for the GOLF i add quickly did it, clever little dingbot. Oh and the reason I think its handy is I always forget to do it......

Don't have my car yet which will have folded mirrors. Currently my Outlander has them , press the key knob twice and the mirrors fold which is easy enough. So I take it you have to press a button in the cabin before they work ?

its snowing outside
Good grief, it's April!

Rotary control switch on the driver's door which also controls both adjustment and positioning of both door mirrors.

Thanks for that Allan , should be easy enough to use once you get used to that particular system

And there's also a setting for demisting the mirrors. Lots of settings for a small, rather flimsy switch.

Added to the fact that I have turned the dial to put my wing mirrors out a few times and nothing has happened!!
I generally just drive off and they fold out within 100 yards or so.
Its only happened a handful of times in 6 months but is annoying if you need the mirrors out to reverse at the time.

I had that problem with my Ed30 - mirrors moved about randomly, like airbrakes on a fighter jet! I recall a software update fixed it.

Mines do that very same thing, its annoying. Mind you its not happened in a while (touch wood)
