Help!!
After the clutch cable giving up(the plastic end at the pedal)i bought a replacement from a local motor factors,
I checked the length on the original and the cable iternal was about 15mm longer but i put this down to the old one stretching?
I then fitted it anyway but now the car selects all gears but won't move(no biting point) now i'm thinking is this the correct cable for the car or not?

OOps it's a mk2 16v 92 on a k plate :embarassed:
-
does the 16v have an auto-adjusting cable or manual adjust? if its manual adjust it needs.... errr adjusting!
couldnt they cross the numbers off the old cable?
-
It's one of those daft self adjusting ones and up until now i had no reason to think it's not the correct one for the car.
-
take it back to the motor factors along with the orginal (or at least the part number on it) and get them to sort another one!!
-
i went for the manual adjusting one for this reason. bloody nightmare to mess about with the autos are.

Auto adjusting cables take a fair few pumps of the pedal to adjust. As far as I gather they changed to auto adjusting 16v 89(ish). Had changed mine as old one was slipping took it out for a spin, no massive improvement  few miles later it was working properly
Provided it was fitted correctly first time round and you just did reversal of removal when fitting shouldn't be an issue.

I'll try and give it plenty pumpin in the morning.. :grin:if that doesn't work back to the factors it'll go

Yes, they seem to take a dim view of that.

Fitted new cable today and it works  but i've only got about 2-3" of clutch(it's almost on the floor)
I take it i need to pump it more and the self adjusting clutch will er-em self adjust??
