Title: Anniversary TDI few questions????
Post by: spadey on 30 March 2010, 21:05
Hi there

just bought my silver anniversary and its pretty awesome. Few questions.

The air bag light is on and the guy said it is because it has a nokia hands free kit fiited!!!!! Is it worth buying a resrt tool off flea bay to reset it???

The revers lights dont work and he has a part on order that attaches to the gearbox, firstly will it fail its mot on this as its due soon and is it a simple part to fit??

Im sure I will have other questions but thought I would give you guys something to start with...

Steve

1) sounds like a load of rubbish

Code reader won't reset the light if you have a problem - most likely cause of the light are an airbag was disconnected whilst the the battery was still connected or a common problem is the wiring loom under the seat has an intermittent connection

No reverse lights is NOT an MOT failure

Thanks for that mate, thats why I got him down £500 to be able to sort the problem..... What is the best way to get it fixed? vw specialist? The reverse lights from a little research is a small thing that just plugs in somewhere but doesnt effect that much.

Just would like to get the airbag light sorted.

Based in Cumbria, any recommendations?

Steve

Not that far North

Might be a member local to you with VAGCOM who can help identify the problem though

They probably pulled the dash fuse when installing the hands free kit which can put the airbag light on when it loses comms with the module. Cheapo scanners only read engine faults so won't be able to access the airbag module to see what the issue is. If it's not a comms error then it's usually down to the plugs under the seats.

Cumbria is a bit far for me to travel just to look at airbag issues... but if you were after a mobile remap..

Seriously mate, I was thinking of a remap, not just for power but for mpg......... What price for a remap and how would a 90k tdi clutch etc handle it? I wouldnt be ragging it it really would be a economy thing. Hey and if you fix the air bag light all in then we may have a deal.

Let me know price and when you can come up??

It really depends on the life the clutch has had up till now. If it's had a hard life it may start to slip as soon as the remap is on the car. If it's been treated well you might get another 20 - 30k out of it. Either way it's best to budget for a new clutch in my honest opinion at that sort of mileage. No need for anything fancy just a genuine standard replacement from vw or tps (unless you plan to go further with the tuning, hybrid turbo etc.).

If you're not heavy with the right foot all the time then mpg increases are usually seen.. but that can be hindered by boost leaks, failing coolant temp sensors, maf sensors and clogged up EGR valves so that's the sort of stuff i check over before the remap. I can investigate the airbag light at the same time.

I'll drop you a pm about making a booking :afro:

Thanks for the honesty mate, worth looking into and with regards to the clutch I had kind of considered that anyway. And I would like you to look over the car anyway as It sounds like it would be worth it so at least I would know if it needs anything.

Had it done, he showed me a fine minor issues like turbo pipes trying to blow themselves off etc...... Top bloke, if I need a a clutch or anything will be going straight there top bloke.....

Running good at moment, just averaged 68mpg on the motorway but still with the remap, nice power increase, not too much but really nice and smooth.

Happy days.
